Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 232 -5300 (920) 232 -5307 FAX Mark Ziemer Director, Senior Services BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER MEETING MINUTES July 27, 2009 PRESENT: Claude Benedict, Don Christman, Bob Cornell, Ellen Hofeldt, Judy Pierson, Ralph Nielsen Donna Pipkorn, Judy Troudt STAFF: Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services, Gerry Haverty Office Assistant Meeting was called to order by Ralph Nielson 1 pm. Minutes June 29, 2009 approved by Bob second by Claude FACILITIES COMMITTEE: Moving computer room. Move curtain in the North Facility, Would affect the gift shop. Would be narrowing the walk way into other area. Working with the City to get the storage shed area cleaned out. FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Need to be thanking people for any monies given. Promote service clubs to hold meetings here, with program and tour. Cindy Glatz has a good start on a new brochure for the Seniors Center. GOVERANCE COMMITTEE; Working on the orientation and nomination process FRIENDS: Donna Pipkorn had hand out of FOSC budget. FOSC will sponsor Molly Butz to attend a conference in Florida. FOSC is well organized for Fall Family Fun Fest, 4 imprints has donated many items for this event. FOSC is selling raffle tickets with the winners to be announced at the Fall Family Fun Fest on September 13, 2009. 1 COMMITTEE ON AGING: Claude asked if we would be getting any money from the stimulus program. Mark stated that funding is for energy efficiency and we are on the list of possibilities. DIRECTORS REPORT: Mark reported that Winnebago County and the Oshkosh Committee on Aging are looking at the Gatekeeper Program. It is similar to the Neighborhood Watch Program but has greater focus on older adults. This project also asks such questions as: Do you know the older adults in your neighborhood? What should I do to assist older adults in my neighborhood? Monitoring if the lawn not cut mail left in the mailbox, shades down during daylight hours? How can I help? The Center participated in the Fourth of July Parade with a Public Enemies theme This went over very well. Using vintage car, people on bikes pulling people in bike carriages, and handing out candy. Mark will get our part of parade on DVD and play it at a future meeting. Claude made comments how well it was done. City of Oshkosh looking at improving bike trails and walking trails. Meeting is planned by the city on this matter. When notice is given to us it will be mailed to the boards. Mark handed out a vision form for the board members to fill out. This will be discussed in part at the next meeting. Person's that did not attend will have this form mailed to them. Softball team approached Mark about putting up a hall of fame at the Senior Center. It is now housed at the Recreation Department. Did not inform us how much room they are going to need. This leaves a question what about other sports and our own Olympics that we have here. Will need to discuss this information with the Facilities Committee. Mark will participate in Leadership Oshkosh, it starts September 16, 2009. Ideas from this will be passed on to the board. CHIPS, OSC will be hosting the meetings. CWAG had their yearly meeting in Green Bay. Ann Jungwirth is a State Officer and Jean Caudle is a District Representative. OLD BUSINNESS: None NEW BUSINNESS Suggestion was made that the FOSC should sell Strawberry Deserts at Sawdust Days because they are not having Strawberry Festival with the Art Fair. Committee Meeting Dates: Governances- 2nd Monday, Fund Development, 3 rd Monday and Board, last Monday of the month, and Committee on Aging 1 St Wednesday of each month. Facilities Committee meets on selected days by the committee. Summary of all OSC accounts and budget were shared. Mark explained how to read the summary of accounts and questions were answered. AD HOC Committee to work on renewing our state accreditation. This is done every 5 years. 2 Respectively Submitted Gerry Haverty Office Assistant
