Oshkosh Sustainability Board

Menominee Drive and Hazel Street
Members present: Justin Mitchell, Andrew Sabai, Jan Scalpone. Others present: Steve Barney,
Michael Lizotte (UWO Sustainability Director), Bill Sturm (Oshkosh Acting Parks Director)
Bill Sturm described a proposed shoreland restoration project for Menominee Park entailing
native perennial plantings between the trail and the lake. The project will be done in phases. He is
working with the county LWCD on phase 1, from Ames Point south 420 feet, for possible
installation in spring 2010. This will be a demonstration site and serve as a nursery for future
plantings. Additional sections are proposed to extend to the boat moorings as funding becomes
available. The Water group recommended including a 2 to 3 acre site (where we met) in the
project area. Among the outcomes of the meeting:
Bill and LWCD will do technical work. Water group will help with educational, political and civic
group support.
Funding will come from grants, contributions and in -kind services. The county is helping fund
phase 1.
Bill and Water group will present the proposal to the Sustainability Advisory Board for
recommendation to the Parks Advisory Board (early winter
