Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 232 -5300 (920) 232 -5307 FAX OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING MINUTES August 5, 2009 Mark Ziemer Director, Senior Services PRESENT: Corky Abraham, Kimberly Bauer, Claude Benedict, Dr Jean Caudle, Jesse Fillmore, Ann Jungwirth, Ruth McGinley, Lurton Blassingame, Kathryn Glander, Harold Singstock, Glenn Steinbrecher STAFF Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services, Gerry Haverty Office Assistant Introduction of new board member Lurton Blassingame given by Glenn Steinbrecher Meeting called to order by Chairman Corky Abraham at 800am CORRESPONDENCE None OLD BUSINESS: NEW BUSINESS: Volunteers needed to chair committees for the Living in the 2000's and 2010 Conference. Ruth, Glenn, Claude on education committee need people to follow up on transportation, information on Medicare, our Newsletter in more locations. Focus on Living in the 2000's promoting our programs. Need politician to come and speak about what is happening with national health. Ann stated CWAG may have speakers that could come. COMMITTEE REPORTS Ann Jungwirth and Dr Jean Caulde did attend conference in Green Bay for CWAG. More discussion will be talked about at the next meeting. Dr Jean Caudle did pass out some information that she had gotten at the conference. Mark is checking with the city attorney regarding COA's membership. Discussion on names of speakers and topics for the 2010 Conference, also could come to the Seniors Center for education. No report from Winnebago County Commission on Aging. Senior Center Board Liaison Cindy Glatz will be contacting JJ Keller Foundation for support and ideas that would benefit Seniors Center. The new brochure is almost ready that Cindy is working on. DIRECTORS REPORT: Stimulus funding is designed for energy savings. Center has temperature control issues. Oshkosh Baseball Hall of Fame would like to put their display here. Unknown how much room they would need. This could be a conflict, what about our Senior Olympics and other teams and sports. Winnebago County and City of Oshkosh CHIPS (Community Health Improvement Process). To prioritize health care needs. City of Oshkosh walking and biking trails. There will be a public hearing on this. The announcement will be mailed to committee members when the meeting will be taking place. Mark asked for help on ideas with staffing issues. Last two years flu shot times have been a problem. Glenn Steinbrecher stated he would volunteer to head the committee to work with Paula, Joan and Candice. We need to educate ourselves on the new health care reform.
