Box 1130 Oshkosh Wisconsin 54903 -1130 City of Oshkosh 0 QfHKDfH TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Jon Urben, General Services Director DATE: August 13, 2009 RE: Central Fire Station Floor Resurfacing Bid BACKGROUND The renovation of the Central Fire Station (Station 15) was funded in the 2008 CIP and bids were awarded and completed for the specified renovation work. The work was completed significantly below the budgeted amount of $1.2 M. For budget purposes several renovation needs were not requested within the original bid specifications. One such item was the need to resurface the fire apparatus bay floor. The current floor is cracked and peeling and has experienced much wear from jacks used in the repair work of our heavy trucks. The solution to this issue is to resurface the floor with a L /4 " epoxy -based coating. ANALYSIS Working in conjunction with the Fire Department, Purchasing reviewed and prepared proposals seeking vendors for this floor resurfacing. Bid requests were sent to two floor resurfacing vendors. In addition the bids were advertised in the local paper and posted online on NovusVendor. Bids were received on July 27, 2009. The bid tabulation is attached. Working with the Fire Department, Purchasing reviewed the bids and concluded the low bid received from Protective Coating Specialists, Inc. met the specifications of this project. FISCAL IMPACT This project will have a fiscal impact of $35,200. The balance of the 2008 Central Fire Station CIP fund is $273,311. Funding for this floor resurfacing bid item would be charged to the 2008 Central Fire Station account: 323 -0230- 7214- 06821. RECOMMENDATION Purchasing recommends the Common Council award the bid to Protective Coating Specialists, Inc. for $35,200.
