Judy Pierson, Dale Sonnenberg, Ralph Nielson, Donna Pipkorn, John Hauser, Barb
Goldthwaite, Don Wolter
STAFF: Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services, and Gerry Haverty Officer Assistant
Meeting was called to order by Ralph Nielson 1 pm.
Ralph then initiated the election of officers; President elected was Ralph Nielson, Vice
President Bob Cornell, and Treasurer Judy Troudt. All were voted in unanimously.
FACILITIES COMMITTEE:
Members of the committee took a tour of all the buildings. Members agreed that
some rooms in the south facility lack versatility. In addition the current wall
dividers for the Adult Day Service and Computer lab limit additional usage of said
rooms.
North building cold storage area could be used if cleaned out. Walking area could
be inside when events are going on such as Fall Fun Festival; they could be out of
the rain.
City of Oshkosh paid us rental for five years. That time is up. Mark is contacting
Kevin Uhen to discuss cleaning out the building.
FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:
Barb Goldthwaite will be a member of the fund development committee. A better
way is needed to thank people, more then letter. Maybe a personal phone call
from a board member.
More the person donates the larger thank you, plaque on the wall, tiles on the
wall, brick with name on it, name room after that person. Need to come up with
options.
GOVERANCE COMMITTEE;
Motion moved to accept the by -laws. Ellen brought up many items that needed to
be changed in the by -laws. Motion made to remove the motion to accept and the
by -laws Governance committee will take on looking at the revisions and will have
them ready to be voted on at the June 29, 2009 meeting.
COMMITTEE ON AGING:
Committee members were asking questions how nominees are found to be on the
committee. Applications are made out and reviewed. The Common Council
appoints the person.
FRIENDS:
Donna Pipkorn reported that their membership is down. Discussion on recycling
batteries and she thought her son could get some information on who would take
the batteries.
DIRECTORS REPORT:
Ad -Hoc committee met and discussed a new perspective on the fitness center.
They are going to meet again to find how they are going to set it up.
Other groups have requested to the Center for their fund raisers. Mark stated that
using our facility too many times for community fund raisers, people may think
that we are always asking for money. If a group uses our facility they should be
able to give us a stipend for the rental.
Looking into getting a Wii system for the Seniors Center.
Application turned in to Winnebago County for $42,000 to support the Seniors
Center.
Vision Oshkosh attendance at Seniors Center had a very small turn out. Nothing
was mentioned about the Oshkosh Senior Center in the Vision Oshkosh
presentation.
WOW is new program for city employees to use. Using better communication with
people so people feel welcomed.
Birthday bingo has gone down in attendance. Mark suggested maybe we should
make a bigger deal for persons who have milestone birthdays.
Mark also was checking into a plot of land near the Seniors Center so people
could come and plant vegetables.
Mark informed the committee that a part -time fundraising and marketing staff
person is being hired with the additional money that was endowed to the Center
by Dr Jean Caudle.
