Original Message .... From: Kepplinger, Susan L. Sent: Thursday, December 12, 2002 11:58 AM To: Burich, Darryn Subject: FW: Proposed I HOP Landscape Plan Just talked to Kevin. The magnolias specified are hardy, but they are specimen plants. He recommends 3 magnolias and 5 shade trees (if you want more trees, which I think is a good idea, there should be more shade trees). For shade trees he recommends swamp white oak, skyline locust, turkish filbert. Since they did not specify the evergreen type, he recommends Norway Spruce. He said that it would not be a problem from a plant viability perspective to plant larger evergreens, he said 4-6" is normal, so you could have them go to the larger end of that range reasonably. As far as the ShrubS go, he recommends buming bush, cultivars of juniper chinensis or juniper sabina, redosier dogwood. He agrees with me that the having all one type and that type being the spirea they propose is not good. ---Original Message .... From: Kepplinger, Susan L. Sent: Thursday, December 12, 2002 9:31 AM To: Burich, Darryn Cc: Westphal, Kevin F. Subject: Proposed I HOP Landscape Plan The plan calls for 11 trees, 72 shrubs (all of the same type) and over 500 perennial plants. Overall, I think this is inadequate to achieve the visual impact you are looking for. The plan calls for 8 Magnolia trees and I am not sure if they are reliably hardy. I have a call in to Kevin On this. I would prefer to see a variety of trees, not 8 of the same. Also, these trees do not get very large, so there will not be a big impact on this large area, even if these trees are hardy. I will try to get some ideas from Kevin on trees that would be more appropriate from a hardiness and visual impact perspective. The three evergreen trees are ok in theory, but we need to know what kind, it is not specified. Also, the initial size is small, only 4'. There is only one kind of shrUb specified, Anthony Waterer Spirea, which is about as common a dirt, and they are using 72 of them. If you want impact, I would suggest a larger shrub type, perhaps viburnum and haVe some variety, including evergreens, a larger juniper type, for example. The balance of the plan calls for over 500 perennial Plants. I have no problem with this, but you are not going to get any visual impact from them for about 6 months out of the year. They need to use fewer of these and perhaps consider putting fewer of these and more shrubs. Integrated ak economizer ~equircd Section 3: Requirements Description Thc following section prsvides a more detailed cxpianation of the requirements listed in Section 4. Generic Requirements: Must bc race by att systems to which thc rcquireaneitt is applicable t. DeSign heating and cooling loads for the building must bc determined using procedures equi~talent ~o those in Chapters 27 and 28 of the ASHRAB Handbook of Fundamentals or an approved equivalent calculation procedure, 2. All equipraent and systems must be sized to be no grester than needed to mcct calculated loads. A single piece of equipment pl~viding both heating and cooling must satisfy this provision for one function with the capaciF for the other [unclion as sraall as possible, within available equipment options. - Exception: The equipment and/or system capacity may b~ ~rcater than calculated loads fo~ standby purposes. Standby equipment musl bc automatically controlled to bc off when the priraau equipment and/or system arc operating, . equipment tFpc whose combined capadtics exceed thc calculated - Exception; Multiple units of the same load are allowed if they are provided with controls to sequence operation'of thc units as the load increases, or decreases, 3. Bach heating or cooling systera serving a single zone must have its own temperattuc control dcvlcc. 4. Each humidification system must havc ~ own humidity controt device. 5. Thermostats controlling both heating and cooling must be capablc of maintaining a 5 deg~cc F dcadband (a range of ~mpcramre where no heating or coolin~ is pzovided). - F..xcepfion: Deadhand capability is not requited if the thermostat does not havc automatic changeover capability benv~en heating and cooling. 6. The system or zone control must b~ a programmable thermostat or ocher automatic control me,ting thc following criteria: a) capable of setting back temperature to 55 degree F during heating and setting up to 85 degree F durin$ cooling b) capable of automatiCally setting back or shutting down systems durin$ unoccupkd hours using '~ different day schedules c) have au accessible 2.heur occupanl override . d) have a baUe~y back-up capable of maintaining programmed seoings for at least l0 hoars without power, . Exception: A set~ck or shutoff control is not required on thermostats that control syst~ns s~ving areas that operate continuouslY, - Exception: A set~ack or shutoff`control is not required on systems with total energy demand of 2 kW (6,$26 Btu/h) or las. 'L Outdoor-air supply systems with design airflow rates greater than 3,000 ~m of oatdoor air and all exhaust systems must have dampers that arc automatically closed while thc ~uipment is not operating. If ~tesY:~ntilation system is designed to supply ou~toor-air qttantiues excccamg immittm rcqu, r~u . sy~em must be capable of rcclucing outdoor-air flow to the minimum required levels. 9. Air ducts nlustbc insulated to the followinglcvels; _ - a) Supply and gturn air ducts for conditioned air locatot in unconditioned spaces (spaces neither heated nor cooled) must be insulated with a minimum of R-5. Unconditioncci spsces include attics, crawl spaces, unheated basements and unheated Tarag~. b) Supply and ~ctunt air ducts and plenums must be insulated to a minimum of R-g when located outside the building. ' c) When ducis are located within exterior components (e.g., floors or roofz), minimum R-$ insulation is required only between thc duct and the building exlerior. - l~xception: Duct insulation is not requireci on ducts Iocsted within equipment. - Exccpgon'. Duct insulation iS Rot required when the design temperaRu~ diffctcnce between the interior and exterior of thc duct or plenum docs no~ exceed 15 degree F. · 10. AIl joints, longitudinal and transverse scants, and connections in ductwork must be scauely sealed using - weldments; mechanical fasteners with seals, gaskets, or mastics; mesh and mastic scaling systems; or tapes. Tapes and mastics must be listed and labeled in accordance with UL 18lA or IlL 18IB. 11. Mechanical fasteners and seals, raastics, or gaskets must be treed when connecting ducts to fans and other air distribution equipment including multiple*zone terminal units. 12. Operation and maintenance documentation nmst be provided to the owner that includes at least thc following information: a) equipment capacity {i~put and outpu0 and required maintcRauce actions b) equipment operation and maintenance manuals c) HVAC sysK~n control maintenance and calibration information, includin~ wiring diagrams, schematics, and contl~l sequence descriptions; clesircd or ficld-dc~crmin~d set points muSt be permanendy recorded on control drawings, at cona*ol devices, or, for digital control systems, in programming comments d) complete narrative of how each sygcm is intended to operate. 13. Each supply air outlet or diffus~ and each zone terminal devic~ (such as VAV or mixing box) must have Rs own balancing device. Acceptable balancing devices include adjustable dampers located within the duCtwork, terminal dcvicca, and supply air diffusers. Requirements Specific To: O,$,A, Unit 1. The specified heating equipment is covered by Federal minimum efficiency ~¢quiremcnts. New equipment of this ~ can be assumed to meet or exceed ASHRAE 90.1 Code requirements for equipment efficiency. l. Thc specified cooling equipment is'covered by Federal minimum efficiency requircmcntz. New eClUipmcnt of this type can be assumed to meet or exceed A$I*IRA~ 90.1 Code requirements for equipment efficiency. 3.
