RE: Consolidated Contract Agreement 2009
BACKGROUND
Council is being asked to authorize the City to enter into an agreement with the Division of Public
Health of the Department of Health Services that will enable the Health Services Division to receive
funding for the period of January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.
The Health Services Division has received similar funding for at least ten years that has been utilized
to increase immunization rates of children, provide home safety assessments to families with children
under the age of five, operate a car seat check program, offer medication take back events, provide
case management to children with elevated blood lead levels and other health related projects.
In the coming year the Division will be granted $63,608. During this grant cycle we will continue to
work on increasing immunization rates of children, case manage lead poisoned children, provide home
safety inspections, organize medication take back events, and participate in the annual community
health and safety fair.
ANALYSIS
This is an annual noncompetitive grant opportunity for the city to provide additional services to the
citizens that would not normally be able to be offered. This grant funds two part-time public health
nurses that provide the services to meet the grant objectives that are negotiated with the State.
FISCAL IMPACT
The activities that are proposed to be undertaken will enable the Division to offer the community
additional programs and/or services. By tapping available grant funds the City does not have to utilize
its budget resources for these programs and /or services
RECOMMENDATION
Council is being asked to authorize the City to enter into the above grant agreement.
