RE: Bid for Hydraulic Extrication Tools (Jaws) Fire Department
BACKGROUND
The hydraulic extrication tools (Jaws of Life) used by the fire department are over 15 years old
and have reached a point of needing increased repairs and potential failure. The replacement of
the tools was included in the 2008 CIP in recognition of this replacement need. Replacement tools
were evaluated and specifications were developed by the fire. department in conjunction with the
Purchasing Division. The specifications included maintaining compatibility with some of our
current equipment which will remain along with some improved performance features.
ANALYSIS
The Purchasing Division initiated a request for bids on this equipment of which there was only
one bidder Jefferson Fire and Safety Equipment. This bid was reviewed and did meet the
requested specifications.
FISCAL IMPACT
The amount budgeted in the CIP was $60,000.00 and the bid received is $53,431.55 which is
$6,568.45 under the budgeted amount.
RECCOMENDATION
We recommend the council approve the bid for hydraulic extrication tools for the fire department
from Jefferson Fire and Safety Equipment for $53,431.55.
Respectfully Submitted, Approved:
Timothy Franz City Manager
Fire Chief
