HomeMy WebLinkAboutEO_Minutes_7-15-08July 15, 2008 Minutes of Education and Outreach Subcommittee Energy and Environment Advisory Board, City of Oshkosh The meeting was called to order at 4:10 at the ARC. In attendance: Steve Barney, Margy Davey, Justin Mitchell, Jan Scalpone. There was no public comment. Steve moved and Margy seconded a motion to add review of last month's meeting minutes to the agen- da. Motion approved; discussion followed. See revised June 16, 2008 meeting minutes, attached. It was agreed that subcommittee members would review a draft of future minutes before submission to the Advisory Board. OLD BUSINESS Community Measures Jan presented a draft for Sustainable Land Use, including objectives to promote compact development and promote urban forestry, a list of existing activities, and action items for each objective. Margy presented a draft for Energy Star Community Outreach, including a goal, objective, and 10-point action plan. Steve shared the Transportation Management Report for the City of Oshkosh 2007. Justin discussed ideas for community outreach, including a regular panel series on OCAT, UWO Earth Charter partnership, promotion of current initiatives, sponsorship of Earth Day essays, creating an annual sustainable business award, and determining interest in developing a sustainable business group. It was decided that a viable course of action for the subcommittee would be to begin any plan by compil- ing alist of existing measures or activities to create an inventory of current community status. Then we can create short-term, people-energy-efficient actions. It was agreed we would each continue develop- ment of plans in our assigned areas, to present at the next subcommittee meeting. Website We will discuss the website status next month. Justin reminded us to continue to send him any ideas we have for inclusion on the website. NEW BUSINESS Community GHG Emissions Steve reminded us of the importance of a community GHG emissions inventory, since about 95% of emissions are created in the community sector, and 5% by the municipality. It is his understanding that the municipal subcommittee assumed any GHG emissions inventory would include the community. Motion made by Jan and seconded by Justin to have an intern include all community GHG emissions, in addition to local government emissions, as part of a GHG emissions inventory for Oshkosh. Approved 4-0. Next Meeting The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 19th, 2008, 4:00 p.m. at the ARC. Agenda will include reviewing our Measures plans, and a report on website progress.
