NDO/ Enclosing the existing porch, provide drywall ceiling to maintain the fire seperation between the units. The walls are to have a
joint at the top to provide for any movement due to the slab not being supported by a frost free foundation. An open air balcony is
ig constructed at 2302 Wisconsin St to provide the required rescue platform outside of the dwelling. See the engineering on file for
connection details for the rescue platform.

I mviewed the proposed knee brace ce®nections Y~ 1~~, to determine the structural
adequacy of these details. The knee brace is to support one cornet of a 4 ft by 8 ft wood deck for
a residential accupancy. Estimated vertical load is 8801b.
The first detail spews a total of (~ h" diameter lag scx+ews connecting a vortical 4x4 to the 6x6
post, with one of the screws connecting through the 4x4 knee brace. The brace is also notched
into the vertica14x4. This mnang~O.art does not have adequeUe capacity for connecting the knee
brace to the vertical. '~
The second detail iacludea a pair of 1 h"USP straps with one sad nailed to the knee brace sad
the other end nailed to the vortical, in this case a 2x4. This world be a USP KFHA~4 strap air
similar. This camaection can support a vertical load of about 9401b, greater than the expected
load The 9401b opacity corresponds to using (1 ~ lOd nails per strap, 8 in each sad, and two
straps per knee brace. The capacity to 10301b if 16d nails are used. The capacitiies
cited here do sot include an increase for short~exm loading and are the:+eFore applicable to a deck
with liveload
