CALL TO ORDER
Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum was declared present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Arlene Schmuhl moved approval of the May 14 meeting. Todd Clark seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Based on Bev Harrington declining nomination as Chair and the fact that Paul Arnold, who had been nominated as
Vice Chair at the May meeting, was not present, Commissioners agreed to table this matter until the June meeting.
TELEVISING COMMISSION MEETINGS
Chair Harold Buchholz moved that Commission meetings be televised. Shirley Mattox seconded the motion for the
purpose of discussion. The motion passed unanimously. Harold Buchholz explained that he thought it would be a
good idea and that he had contacted Jon Urben at Media Services to explore the possibility. Staff reported that the
matter had been discussed on a staff level and pointed out the fact that this would require meetings to be held in room
404 and room scheduling conflicts would mean a change in the meeting date and/or time.
Discussion ensued. Following Todd Clarkâs request for additional time to consider this matter, Harold Buchholz
withdrew his motion. This matter will be placed on the June agenda for further discussion.
WATER TOWER DEMOLITION
Harold Buchholz reported that he and Burk Tower had appeared on Eye on Oshkosh to discuss this matter and that he
had spoken at a Common Council workshop and Council meeting to express opposition to the proposed demolition of
the tower.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORDINANCE
Harold Buchholz suggested that the Commission become more proactive in preventing the destruction of historic
properties and he proposed an ordinance amendment requiring review of demolition of any structure 50 years old or
older.
Following discussion, Commissioners requested staff forward examples of historic preservation ordinances used by
other Wisconsin communities with the next meeting notice and agreed to place this matter on the July agenda.
WEBSITE UPDATE
Harold Buchholz reported that the web site needs correction and updating.
