HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-186MAY 13, 2008 MAY 27, 2008 08-172 08-186 ORDINANCE FIRST READING SECOND READING (CARRIED LOST 2-5 LAID OVER WITHDRAWN ) PURPOSE INITIATED BY AMEND ORDINANCE DUTIES OF THE MAYOR-AWARDING KEYS TO THE CITY AND COUNCIL MEETINGS COUNCIL MEMBER PALMERI A GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF OSHKOSH REPEALING AND RECREATING SECTION 2-11(I) PERTAINING TO DUTIES OF THE MAYOR AND TO CREATE 2-10(E)(1) PERTAINING TO COUNCIL MEETINGS WHEREAS, the purpose of awarding a Key to the City of Oshkosh is to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the city, state, nation, or world; and WHEREAS, the City of Oshkosh Municipal Code does not currently specify how Key to the City recipients are to be nominated and selected; and WHEREAS, principles of good government dictate that the Common Council approve Key to the City nominations; and WHEREAS, principles of open government dictate that a Key to the City only be awarded at publicly noticed events. The Common Council of the City of Oshkosh does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. That Section 2-11(I) of the Oshkosh Municipal Code pertaining to the Duties of the Mayor -Issue Proclamations is hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows: SECTION 2-11 (I) Issue Proclamations and Nominate Key to the City Recipients To issue all proclamations and to nominate, subject to Council approval, all Key to the City recipients. SECTION 2. That Section 2-10(E)(1) of the Oshkosh Municipal Code pertaining to the Council Meetings -Meetings Shall Be Public is hereby created to read as follows: (E)(1) A Key to the City may only be awarded at meetings of the Common Council or at other publicly noticed events. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication.
