HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING MINUTES AUGUST 8, 2007 Present: Chairman Donna Altepeter, Corky Abraham, Claude Benedict, Dr. Jean Caudle, Jesse Fillmore, Ann Jungwirth, Kara Klein, Kristi Knudsen, Jerry Konrad, Ruth McGinley, Joan Rogers and Glen Steinbrecher Staff: Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services Guests: Harold Singstock Chairman Altepeter called the meeting to order at 8 a.m. Chairman Altepeter called for approval of the June 6, 2007 Meeting Minutes. Unanimously approved. CORRESPONDANCE No correspondence REPORT FROM MARK ZIEMER Mr. Ziemer reported that Mark Wiesensel would be at the next meeting. Mr. Ziemer reported much of his attention would be on the following plans for fund development: ? Friends of the Center ? The Center Board ? Committee on Aging He plans to oversee funding for: ? Annual Operations ? Growing the Endowment ? Renovation and Capital Improvements He said they are looking for a Development Coordinator. Mr. Ziemer is working on the completion of the Master Plan. Representatives from the Committee on Aging volunteered to be on the Annex Committee: they are Jesse Fillmore and Ann Jungwirth. Mr. Ziemer reported the City is giving them a 1% increase in funding. He plans to look for groups to speak to and to find people to fit in with to tell his story about the OSC and find players that will move OSC into the future. By October he hopes to speak with service groups and church groups about OSC. He wishes to continue relations with the ADVOCAP meal site and LLS as well as others. He called his project the “Chicken Circuit” because he wishes to speak with these groups around town. Committee On Aging Minutes August 8, 2007 1 Mr. Ziemer stated wants to de-emphasize the “seniors” concept and promote branding with using the initials: “OSC” as much as he can. He said we have a lovely campus with the North Building and the South Building. Mr. Ziemer mentioned that there should be 3 people involved in making decisions in the Gift Store to jury the crafts and merchandise instead of just one or two volunteers. He mentioned that the representatives and staff of OSC should connect with the ”Tours” group and the “Friends” group, and since we have two buildings there should be representatives at both locations. COMMITTEE REPORTS Dr. Jean Caudle promoted the ADVOCAP Meal Plan and its placement in the Friends Newsletter as well as other free information: ? Blood Pressure ? Depression ? Others th Ann Jungwirth reported on the Fall Family Fun Fest on Sunday September 9 at the Seniors Center Annex and remarked about the full page ad in the Friends Newsletter. Joan Rogers passed out sheets with 10 speaker topics and the members were asked to circle 6 and pass the sheets back to Ms. Rogers. She said they would have speakers every 3 months this year and next year. th Ann Jungwirth reported on a conference in Green Bay on the 27 of August. Kara Klein reported that TRIAD was promoting quality of life issues for seniors by winterizing cars and safety issues. NEW BUSINESS Mark Ziemer brought up the use of “Senior Doings” on radio station 101.9 and suggested more use of “Senior Savvy” on Cable TV, he said he would like to de-emphasize the word Senior for branding purposes. Kristi Knudsen brought a proposal for a forum on Caregiving Insurance. Mr. Ziemer suggested it be proposed at the Winnebago Coalition of Caregivers. Ms. Knudsen explained there is much confusion about the subject and suggested it be produced on channel 10. Mr.Ziemer suggested it might be part of another event and the Committee on Aging could work with the Winnebago Coalition of Caregivers. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:33 a.m. Corky Abraham moved to adjourn and Jesse Fillmore seconded it. Unanimous.
