OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING MINUTES

Chairman Kristen Cimera called the meeting to order at 8 a.m.
Chairman Cimera called for approval of the June 1, 2006 Meeting Minutes. Mr. Benedict stated

Mrs. Kreibich introduced Mary Schmidt, Senior Citizen Representative, Congressman Thomas Petri’s
office. Mary addressed the committee in regards to the Older American’s Act (Senior Independence Act).
She also discussed the Medicare Part D program, the number of people taking part in the program and the
money that can be saved by utilizing the program. She handed out a letter regarding keeping the program
active and discussed the changes needed for the program to run more efficiently, to simplify the forms,
and promote use of the program. Ms. Schmidt went on to discuss the Social Security program noting that
benefits won’t be cut until 2040. Ms. Schmidt discussed the minimum wage and the Estate Tax Bill and
answered questions from the Board on a variety of issues.
Committee Reports
Mrs. Kreibich stated that Ann Jungwirth has resigned from the Committee. She also informed the
Committee that Ellen Hofeldt has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Oshkosh Seniors Center

Senior Connection Report
Mary Beth Kurzynske reported on the survey she had taken in regards to funeral homes using addresses in
obituaries. She stated she found the practice mostly used by small town funeral homes. Mrs. Kreibich
requested Ms. Kurzynske to check with the funeral homes in Omro and Wiinneconne and Berlin. The
information found will be shared with the committee.
New Business
Mrs. Kreibich stated she had been studying providing free bus transportation for seniors to the Oshkosh
Seniors Center. She stated she had discussed this with City Transit Director Mark Huddleston and would
like to offer this program on a trial basis through the end of the year. She stated there was money from the
interest of the endowment fund to pay for the transportation; the Center recently received a check in the
amount of $11,000+. Mrs. Kreibich stated Ms. Kurzynske has been working on a program to encourage
more bus use. Mr. Konrad questioned if there were guidelines for use of the endowment fund. Mrs.

Budget Timeline / Recommendations
Mrs. Kreibich stated she received notice last week that the budget for 2007 was due in two weeks. She
stated she has been directed to make out two budgets, one with a zero percent increase and one with a
three percent decrease. Mrs. Kreibich reviewed the options she felt were available to meet the budget
demands.
Mrs. Kreibich stated the Fund Committee should plan to meet soon as recommendations are needed to
bring more funds into the Center, especially with less tax dollars available for operation.
