Medicare Part D Presentation: Winnebago County Benefit Specialist Candice Corbett handed out a packet of information on her presentation. Enrollment for Medicare Part D will be from November 15, 2005 through May 15, 2006. If a person does not currently have supplemental drug coverage and enrolls at a later date, there will be a penalty charge. If a person already has supplemental drug coverage, the provider has until November 11 to let the beneficiary know if their coverage is considered credible or not. Credible means that the coverage is adequate compared to the new national drug program. If a person loses drug coverage, they will not be penalized. On December 31, 2005 discount prescription cards will be deleted. In January 2007 the fee for Part D will be on a sliding scale. Social Security will be sending letters out to those folks with a potential low-income level. The Oshkosh Seniors Center will continue hosting Candice to give presentations to interested seniors. Presentations are set up for September 1 @ 1 PM; September 13 @ 6 PM; November 3 @ 9:30 AM; November 22 @ 6 PM; and December 1 @ 1 PM. The Benefit Specialists are available to meet one on one with individuals for further details. Correspondence: Sue Kreibich announced that the budget is due to the City Manager next Tuesday. There will be a 0% increase or if there is an increase th there will need to be revenue to offset the cost. On July 19, Boris Frank met with the Board of Directors and staff of the Oshkosh Seniors Center (OSC.) A copy of Mr. Franks’ outline of the results of that event was passed out. The Board will discuss the proposed recommendations at their August meeting. A conditional use permit was received from the Planning Commission for Lutheran Social Services (LSS) to provide Adult Day services out of the O.S.C. Next Tuesday the City Council will hopefully approve this also. LSS will provide around $19,000 of staff time per year in exchange for the space being used. A one-year contract will be signed. It was decided to go with one year first to give both sides the chance to see if things will work.
