Correspondence:
Sue Kreibich announced that there is a mini conference on April 29
from 8:30 a.m. until Noon to be held at Robbins Restaurant. It is being sponsored by
East Central Planning Commission and will discuss Aging and Diversity in our
community. No R.S.V.P is needed. County Directories will be delivered by May.
Housing Committee:
This committee met and decided that there should be a directory
for our aging citizens but rather than a booklet, they were suggesting a large fold up
brochure. Toby Rosenberg received prices for printing this sheet. Steinert’s would
charge $799 for a quantity of 1000. Corky Abraham thought that maybe Lutheran
Homes might share in the cost. Sue will be discussing this with Brad Masterson of the
Oshkosh Housing Authority as they financed the cost of the last Directory printed two
years ago. Toby will get a quote also from one other printer that can handle printing a
brochure that large.
Oshkosh Seniors Center Board of Directors:
Any Block Grant dollars left over after
the roof has been installed at the Annex are eligible to be used to hire a consultant firm
to give an estimated cost of renovating the pole shed. Sue will talk to the purchasing
agent about whom to contact. M/S/C (Kratsch, Benedict), for Sue to go ahead and get
cost estimates for renovation of the pole building.
January revenues doubled from last year. Town of Algoma has second highest number
of resident users after the City of Oshkosh residents. The Village of Winneconne is
considering reimbursing their residents a portion of fees they pay. They will discuss this
during next year’s budget deliberations. M/S/C (Konrad, Kratsch) for Sue to forward
proposals of 2006 funding to Jackson Kinney. Jerry Kratsch mentioned that at the next
Committee on Aging meeting, names of people to be elected to the Board will be
presented. The updated Constitution of the Board will be given to Committee on Aging
members at the next meeting.
th
Awards:
Corky will present the Committee awards at Taste of Towne, held on April 26.
Chairman Report:
Corky Abraham read aloud a resignation letter from Barbara Brook,
effective immediately. Barbara will be moving to Arizona as she and her husband have
retired. The committee wishes them well. M/S/C (Kratsch, Benedict), that the
resignation is accepted as written.
Winnebago County Commission on Aging:
Jerry Kratsch reported there was a
speaker for the County Commission on Aging who expressed his concerns for how
marketing is done to seniors. He believes the younger generation should be the target
for marketing of Senior Activities. They are next to use facilities and can talk to their
parents about attending. Sue Kreibich said that we are one of the few senior centers
that start with the age of 50. Sue will also look into the statistics of how many people
age 50 or older use the facilities. Sue also mentioned that around half of the participants
do not give their age, so statistics will not be accurate. In June Wautoma will have their
town hall meeting about aging.
Coalition of WI Aging Groups:
Ann Jungwirth announced that CWAG would be having
a convention May 10-12. Ann passed around a sheet that gave 12 tips to protect
oneself from health care fraud. M/S/C (Kratsch, Cimera), to rejoin CWAG. M/S/C
(Kratsch, Konrad), to have Ann Jungwirth as representative for CWAG. Jerry Kratsch
reported that Dave Fendt, Winnebago County Benefit Specialist said there will be 160
companies presenting long-term health or prescription cards. Ann will look into finding
someone to give a presentation to the committee on fraud.
Senior Shuttle:
Dr. Jean Caudle shared that we need to keep marketing the Senior
Shuttle, to get the user numbers up. Shirley Mattox will be going to UW-O for a student
assembly and will announce that the bus is available to all. Bev. from Transit
appreciates the suggestions and will mail schedules of bus to churches.
Member Comments:
The last Saturday of October will be the Caregiver Resource Fair.
This will be for all caregivers. Kristen Cimera feels that the name Seniors Center stops
people from attending. Jerry Kratsch said that he would be reluctant to change the
name. The committee would like to get speakers to talk about CWAG; long-term health
care; Medicare part D and social security.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Bobbie Jo Luft, Office Assistant
