Chairman Report:
The Awards Committee needs to meet to discuss the awards that
are given annually by the committee. Sue Kreibich shared that there will not be a large
Volunteer Recognition this year and suggested that the awards be given at the Taste of
Towne event to be held on April 26. This year’s committee includes: Jerry Kratsch;
Barbara Brook; Dr. Jean Caudle Ann Jungwirth and Corky Abraham.
Corky shared about a special speaker doing a presentation on Aging Statistics and
Trends on Thursday, Feb. 17at 9:30 a.m. The Oshkosh Committee on Aging, Oshkosh
Seniors Center Board of Directors, the Friends of the Oshkosh Seniors Center, Inc.
Board and Committee members along with O.S.C. staff will be invited. Corky suggested
not having a regular Committee on Aging meeting in February. It was moved, seconded
and approved, unanimously, to not have a regular meeting next month. The
presentation will take place at Carmel in the Dining Room, located at 220 North
Westfield Street. as all Center rooms are busy that morning. Sue will prepare a flyer
inviting the various people to the event. Terry Mclaughlin from Hoffman Corporation will
be giving the presentation. The main focus for all of the groups invited to this
presentation is the same; all are concerned about serving seniors of Oshkosh. Mr.
Mclaughlin's talk will include demographics and changes of healthcare and how to
promote services.
Due to cancelled meetings in December, there were no reports from the O.S.C. Board of
Directors and Winnebago County Commission on Aging. An announcement was made
that Tom Regan, former Friends President fell last week and is hospitalized. Sue
Kreibich reported on the Board Constitution update that needs to be authorized by this
committee. The city attorney reviewed the updated Constitution and requested some
changes be made. Sue recommended sending it back to the Board so that they can
work on the items needing changes or clarifications.
Committee member comments:
Senior Shuttle rider-ship is low; to keep this program
going after the one-year trial there must be an average of 150 riders per day. Sue will
get an update from Bev. Mallon from the Transit Division and keep the committee
members up to date.
Corky Abraham spoke of a new machine that is set up to disperse medications. The
cost is about $600, some housing facilities will rent them to tenants. This machine will
beep every so often and if patient does not take the medication within a certain amount
of time, it will make a call to let someone know. It will be able to service for one-week
increments.
Winnebago County Board unanimously agreed to downsize Park View nursing home
beds by 50. Due to the fact that more of the elderly population will be living at home
raises concern for transportation for these people to get to different places. The Housing
Directory needs to be updated. Sue Kreibich will talk with Brad Masterson of the
Housing Authority to see if the booklet could be made into a pamphlet rather than a
book. It was suggested to see if Legal Women Voters would attend a meeting and help
the committee by taking on some issues of concern.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Bobbie Jo Luft, Office Assistant
