HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Board of Directors of the Oshkosh Seniors Center Meeting Minutes - Monday April 30, 2007 Present: A.J. Anand, Toni Anand, Claude Benedict, Phyllis Hill, Ellen Hofeldt, Mary Luepke, Esther Stegemann, Judy Troudt, Don Wolter, and Mona Walker, Vice President Staff: Sue Kreibich, Director of Senior Services; Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services; and Vickie Rand, Office Assistant Excused : Bill McCarthy, Ralph Nielsen, Donna Pipkorn, Leon Thompson, and John Vandenberg, Guests: Joyce Ludwig Vice President Walker called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M. Motion by Vice President Walker called for approval of the March 26, 2007 Meeting Minutes. Benedict for approval of the March 26, 2007 minutes as distributed. Seconded by Wolter. Motion carried. Unanimous. DIRECTORS REPORT Mrs. Kreibich introduced Mark Ziemer, the new Director of Senior Services at this time. Mr. Ziemer gave a brief history of his background and the Board introduced themselves. COMMITTEE REPORTS Mr. Wolter reported on the Facilities Committee meeting. He stated the committee recommends Motion by Mr. Anand a crack in the kitchen floor be repaired for an estimated cost of $400.00. to repair the kitchen floor for an estimated cost of $400.00. Seconded by Hill. Unanimous. Mr. Wolter also reported that exterior sign poles are in need of painting and the DAC personnel will include that in their spring-clean up on May 17, under supervision of the Facilities Committee. He also stated that staff will be caulking and painting the exterior of the Main Facility, and no estimates are available at this time. Mrs. Kreibich reported that the Personnel Committee has overseen the need to hire a Volunteer Coordinator, and Julie Zuleger, started work Monday, 4/30/07, for 18 hours per week. She reported the committee has also been striving to even out the placement of staff between the Main Facility and the Annex, and with the hiring of a Volunteer Coordinator, and a new part- time receptionist, Jeanne Tollard, there will be two full-time and three part-time staff members at the Annex, and three full-time and three part-time staff members at the Main Facility with a full- time custodian and part-time housekeeper on staff as well. Mrs. Kreibich explained the loss of the part-time staff person on 4/26/07. Mrs. Kreibich also discussed the changes at the Main Facility regarding the movement of the Clerk Typists II office and the welcome center staffed by volunteers. Oshkosh Senior Center Board Meeting Minutes - 1 - April 30, 2007 Mrs. Anand stated the Publicity Committee has not met recently and feels there is a need to refocus. Discussion followed as to the reorganization of the committee’s to be discussed at a later date. Mrs. Kreibich suggested the Board work with Mr. Ziemer regarding the reorganization of the Committee’s and the direction of the Board. Mr. Wolter stated he feels the committees should be advisory to staff and be able to by-pass the Board to expedite things that need to be taken care of. Ms. Hofeldt suggested a committee relating to each staff position might be one option to consider. Mr. Ziemer suggested a task force on an as needed basis, to consider things that need a limited amount of time to review instead of assigning a committee. Mrs. Kreibich reminded Mr. Ziemer and the Board that the Constitution will need to be changed with any new decisions regarding the reorganization of committee’s and will also need to be approved by the Committee on Aging. Ms. Hill reported on the Health Advisory Committee Meeting noting their past accomplishments, which include the influenza vaccine, the healthyLiving program, and the grant received from the Ladies Benevolent Society in support of the Nurse spending time in the Fox Fitness Center. She stated they also discussed developing a training program for the prevention of falls. Mrs. Kreibich reported on the Friends Board Meeting. She stated the Strawberry Festival would be held on the Second Sunday in June at the South Park Art Fair, and noted they are working on the distribution of the Kids From Wisconsin posters for the July event, the Fall Family Fun Festival on Grandparents Day, and the Queen for a Day promotion. Mrs. Anand stated the Friends Gift Shop want a phone. Mrs. Kreibich stated she is looking into getting a ghost phone for outgoing calls. Mr. Ziemer stated he would negotiate for more phones with the expansion of the Center. Mrs. Kreibich reported one phone line was put in place recently for the Development Coordinator and one line for the Senior Connections staff person, Ann Prickett, who recently started at the Center. OLD BUSINESS Mrs. Anand inquired if names could be given to the handout of staff responsibilities. Mrs. Kreibich named staff for each responsibility listed. NEW BUSINESS Review of meeting times, numbers of Board members per Common Council request: -Mrs. Kreibich reported per the Common Council’s request, that they are asking all committee’s to review the meeting times, and number of members to provide the best customer service. It was discussed and this board feels they have reviewed it on an ongoing basis. Mr. Ziemer stated a task force could be set up to look at this further along with the committee issues. Election/Re-election of Board Members: Motion by Mr. Wolter for approval to elect Joyce - Ludwig, and Roger Westphal to the Oshkosh Seniors Center Board of Directors, and to re- elect Toni Anand, Claude Benedict, Mary Luepke, Ralph Nielsen, Judy Troudt, and Mona Walker to the Senior Center Board of Directors. Seconded by Ms. Hill. Motion Carried. Mr. Anand abstained. Oshkosh Senior Center Board Meeting Minutes - 2 - April 30, 2007 Ms. Brewer joined the meeting at this time and introduced Julie Zuleger, the new Volunteer Coordinator, to the Board. Julie gave a brief history of her background and the Board introduced themselves to her as well. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 2:33 p.m. (Wolter/Stegemann). Unanimous.
