APPROVAL OF MINUTES Paul Arnold moved approval of the February 13 meeting. Arlene Schmuhl seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. WATER TOWER DEMOLITION Because of the immediacy of the proposed demolition and the fact that the Director of Public Works and the Superintendant of Utilities were present to provide information, Commissioners agreed to address this matter first. Commissioners raised questions regarding the necessity of demolishing the tower as part of the work being required by the DNR and the apparent lack of appropriate long-term maintenance of the tower structure. Commissioners agreed that the estimates for the cost of repairing and maintaining the structure appeared to be inaccurate. Following discussion with staff, Commissioners concluded that there appeared to be no viable alternative to demolition. The Superintendant of Utilities reported that the original building plans and other historic documentation of the facility will be turned over to the Oshkosh Public Museum. Commissioners urged the consideration of salvage of as much material as possible. Public Works staff agreed to explore that. Commissioners discussed the need for being more proactive regarding the condition of other historic structures owned by the City and the concept of sustainability as it relates to demolition decisions. ADJOURNMENT Due to the amount of time spent on the previous matter, Commissioners agreed that the balance of the agenda items would be addressed at the April meeting. Todd Clark moved the meeting be adjourned. Paul Arnold seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Respectfully Submitted, Susan Kepplinger Principal Planner
