HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes CITY OF OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION MINUTES January 9, 2008 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Paul Arnold, Harold Buchholz, Todd Clark, Bev Harrington, Shirley Mattox, Arlene Schmuhl AD HOC MEMBERS PRESENT: none EXCUSED: Burk Tower STAFF: Susan Kepplinger OTHERS PRESENT: Trent Margrif, National Trust Midwest Office CALL TO ORDER Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum was declared present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Arlene Schmuhl moved approval of the December meeting. Paul Arnold seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP Commissioners will contact several people with an interest and understanding of local history and historic preservation to encourage them to apply for the one vacant position on the Commission. 2008 GOALS Commissioners agreed on the following goals: Local landmark designation of at least one property Preservation of Riverside Cemetery Publish four editions of “Life in the Past Lane” Enhance the Acanthus Awards Program Commissioners will consider additional goals and finalize 2008 goals at the February meeting. RIVERSIDE CEMETERY SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT Arlene Schmuhl reported the subcommittee had not met in December. Committee members agreed on a standing meeting scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm. LOCAL LANDMARK Shirley Mattox reported that she is working on research for Landmarking of the Gates House at 404 W. New York. E NEWSLETTER The first newsletter for 2008 has been completed and posted on the Commission web page. PLANNING CALENDAR REVIEW There was nothing to act on regarding this matter. AGENDA ITEMS FOR FEBRUARY MEETING Staff was directed to include the following items on the February agenda: Acanthus Award Program, National Trust staff update, status of tower at water treatment plant and pool of historic names for new streets. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Bev Harrington moved the meeting be adjourned. Todd Clark seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
