A building or other structure served shall be supplied by only one service unless permitted in (a)
through (d). For the purpose of Section 230-40, Exception No.2 only, underground sets of
conductors, size 1/0 and larger, running to the same location and connected together at their
supply end, but not connected together at their load end, shall be considered to be supplying one
service. fm~~~t~~1

(a) Special Conditions. Additional services shall be permitted to supply
1. Fire pumps
2. Emergency systems
3. Legally required standby systems
4. Optional standby systems
5. Parallel power production systems ![~onmu!1llt~
(b) Special Occupancies. By special permission, additional services shall be permitted for
1. Multiple-occupancy buildings where there is no available space for service equipment
accessible to all occupants, or
2. A single building or other structure sufficiently large to make two or more services
necessary.[~~

(c) Capacity Requirements.
1. Additional services shall be permitted where the capacity requirements are in excess of
2000 amperes at a supply voltage of 600 volts or less.
2. Additional services shall be permitted where the load requirements of a single-phase
installation are greater than the serving agency normally supplies through one service.
3. Additional services shall be permitted by special permission.lrC~~t_~

frequencies, or phases, or for different uses, such as for different rate schedules.llcommnta'~1
(e) Identification. Where a building or structure is supplied by more than one service, or any
combination of branch circuits, feeders, and services, a permanent plaque or directory shall be
installed at each service disconnect location denoting all other services, feeders, and branch
circuits supplying that building or structure and the area served by each. See Section 225-37.

11225-37. Identification
Where a building or structure has any combination of feeders, branch circuits, or services passing
through it or supplying it, a permanent plaque or directory shall be installed at each feeder and
branch-circuit disconnect location denoting all other services, feeders, or branch circuits
supplying that building or structure or passing through that building or structure and the area
served by each. See Section 230-2(e).
Exception No.1: A plaque or directory shall not be required for large capacity multibuilding
industrial installations under single management, where it is ensured that disconnection can be
accomplished by establishing and maintaining safe switching procedures.
Exception No.2: This identification shall not be required for branch circuits installed from a
dwelling unit to a second building or structure.

Larry,
On Aug. 29, 2002 GE Power Systems/AC Compressor was inspected by the
city of Oshkosh. Kevin Benner,
Brian Noe, and Douglas Thurber were present during the inspection.
The following is a list of violations needing
correction from Excellence Electric.
1. Inspect all disconnects and correct grounding. Found three
instances of two ground wires one a single lug
on the paint booth.
2. Inspect all 30 amp outlets and correct grounding. Found 12 gauge
ground on 30 amp outlets in the pipeshop.
10 gauge wire required here.
3. Ground building with new GE service to the main plant.
4. Clarify with Kevin his expectations on conductor identification
and remedy.
Cordially,
Douglas Thurber
