Dear Mr. Stilen:
I am wri ting to respond to a question raised by Mr. Peter
Oches on a recent site visit concerning the above referenced
projects. Apparently, in the course of construction of the
Stein Garden Center, the door supplier inadvertently
neglected to provide a 3'-0" handicap access door directly
from the parking lot. Instead, all of the doors entering
from the front of the building convenient to the parking lot
are double 2'-6" doors.
with that in mind, we have enclosed the following schedule
of occupants versus exit width, and will have the door
supplier install a 31-0" entrance door and sidelight system
per code, as the main entry door to Steins directly
adjacent to the parking lot and handicap parking.
Number of occupants = 250 (See attached letter from Steins)
Required exit width at 50" per 100 persons = 125"

stamp of approval.

Dear Ron:
As a courtesy to you as developer and general contractor for
the above referenced project, I am sending this letter through
you onto Omni Glass for their information and implementation of
required changes to the above referenced project. I have
enclosed the recently received building inspection report and
orders from Safety and Buildings Division of DILHR of which we
are addressing only item 2, as it relates to the building shell
which was part of our responsibility.
Apparently notations on shop drawings submitted by Omni Glass
to our firm requiring proper exit width for the handicapped
were not provided and thus the door widths at the Stein Garden
Center, as well as possibly the other tenant spaces, are not
wide enough as required by Code. Please note that to the best
of our knowledge, the 2'-811 required handicapped exit and
entrance as noted on the. enclosed building inspection report
and orders, can only be installed if the 2 '-8" door services
less than 25 persons. For that reason, originally we asked for
3'-0" wide doors.
It is imperative that this situation be resolved immediately,
and we would suggest that Omni Glass be I;"equired to install the
correct exit width doors at their earliest convenience.

I will send a copy of this letter to Mr. Pete Ochs, the State
Inspector, and Mr. Ed Reimer, as well as Threshhold Design, the
architects for the Stein Garden Center tenant space, so that
they may be kept abreast of the situation.
If you have any questions or comments concerning this item let
me know, otherwise we will assume that the doors are being
changed per Code.
