C<:)ncU.tions Qf t;.l'l~ ref~r~llc~d'k>~il~+nstsubsequent. to a fire in the
prem.ises which oecurr.,don WEil(~fnesda:y evening, January 13, 1971.
The writ$:!:' visited the premises on Thursday afternoon, January 14,
1971, and learned that the fire statt.,dsom.e .t.i~e af'1;~~i4:30 to
4:45 P.M. which is the tim.e the e~ployees left. the btd.].ding.F1.re
t.rueks arrived at. thl!t premises to e~tinquish the fire a~ apo~t 6:12
P.M. which facts indieat$th.e d'U;:<at1c:,')11 of the fire.

wall at the floor level. The eonditlc:,')n of t~e roof joists indicated
extensive charring of t.hese joists an" the absence of a port.ion of the
wood cross bridqlnq in t.his bay as.a result. Of being' burned up. The
wxi ter furt.her learned toat a gas line was broken as a.rEHilult of the
heater in this area falll-Ilg to the floor and the emlssiol1>()f gas from
t.his line, which was also l.ocatedapproximat.ely in the center of the
bay, augmented the condition of the r<>c:,')f joists as indicat.ed above.
However, t.he fire damaqe t.o the wood jdsts was not sufficient to cause
any COllapse of the roof in t~is area.
The writer astain visited t.he prelnises on 'l'hursday .mornin~, January 21,
1971, to view thEil conditions a.fter debris on the floor bad been re...
~oved. As a result of this inspection, it is the writer's opinion
that. the. st.ructural steel roof bea-ms and colt1m:n.~n.ve not.):)een afi:Etoted
by the fire t.o t~~e!ttE9l1t tl1a.t tl1.!.!.~ .~eplace:ment would be re.quired.

In addition, the m.asonry walls, both interior and ex:t~rl,or, are
structurally adequate.
Attached hereto is a copy of Sheet Nos. 1 and 2 of 2 indicating
checked calculations for the rOQf joists, steel roof beams and
steel columns. These calculations indicate the fact tha.t the
existing fram.ing for this buil4ing is more than adequate to
support the superim.posed loads.
The owner proposes to replace such roof joists which have evidence
of being charred by the fire with the same size ~~d spacing of
roof joists as presently exists. The majority of the roof joists
which have been discolored by smoke will be cleaned but l'lot re-
placed. Hence, any repair work done will be e~actly in accordance
with the existing construction.
