HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-Complaint Letter July 6, 2007 Oshkosh Housing Authority 600 Merritt Ave Oshkosh, WI 54901 To Whom It May Concern: I am a long-time resident and homeowner in our city, and I am writing to express my concern about a neighboring residence deemed uninhabitable by the City of Oshkosh because of city code violations. The house/property I am referring to is 1902 Minerva St. It is my understanding that the owners of the adjourning property have contacted city officials on several occasions to voice their concern about a myriad of unpleasant and intolerable conditions that exist with the house and property at 1902 Minerva St. Although uninhabited by humans, the building appears to be home to numerous species of rodents, insects and other animals. I have personally observed skunk, raccoon, mice and feral cats around the house. I'm particularly troubled by the likelihood of young children playing in the vicinity of this house being bitten, scratched, or stung. Children and adults should feel safe outside their own homes and should not have to feel anxious or fearful of unprovoked attacks. What's disconcerting to me is the fact that the owner (landlord) of this property has, to my knowledge, been able to evade prosecution or other actions requiring him to fix the problems. As a homeowner in our neighborhood, we should expect his and the city government's help in preserving all of our property values. His lack of action affects all of us. And, I feel that the safety concerns involved should make this a top priority for the city's housing department. I appreciate the opportunity to express my feelings about this matter. Thank you for your consideration and for your service to our community. ~& ~. Beverly Flanigan ~ 1913 Wilson Ave. Oshkosh, WI 54901 (920) 235-8311
