Through inspection, we have determined that proper second exits do not exist from one or more of the dwelling units and that there are no fire-rated enclosures surrounding the heating plant(s) and hot water heater(s). Second exits and fire-rated enclosures, with a few exceptions, have been required in buildings with three (3) or more dwelling units since 1914 by the Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations Ind 57 and before 1914 by Ind 164, Existing Buildings. Therefore, you are requested to contact the Building Inspector's Office within 15 days to discuss plans for bringing your building into compliance. Smoke detectors to be installed in front bedroom area 2nd floor. Smoke detector in front hall improperly installed. Fire extinguishers to be serviced annully.. 11. Palo Alto, CA 94301 January 21, 1986 Dear Mr. Baker, Your letter of December 20, 1985 arrived at my office while I was on vacation. I have been back to work about a week now and will attempt to answer your questions. I have been back to 1200 Washington Ave. and have checked the corrections which have been made. As for your proposal of the years extension, I have no problems with your request except for onei That is of course the removal of the kitchen facilities on the third floor and the second kitchen on the first floor. I have enclosed a letter from the states Chief building inspector to show you the ruling. .This part of the code of course applies to either the building inspector and/or the housing inspector. The only way I can agree to the years extension under your terms is if the kitchen facilities are removed. I have discussed this with the housing inspector and has agrees with me. As to your concern about manner in which the inspections were performed and the things that were purportedly said by the inspectors, I feel the person making the original complaint is trying to use us as a way out of their lease. I would appreciate it if you would send me a list of the witnesses ib btder that I could find out . . which inspectors had purportedly made any commerits.
