Esp ineli@us.ul.com Thursday, April 12, 2001 3:01 PM kbenner@ci.oshkosh.wLus Field Report for Square D Transformer Hi Kevin, I talked to the Designated Engineer in the Northbrook Office for transformers, Mr. Steve Prisby. In addition, I had the Field Representative visit the manufacturing facilities to confirm current construction complies with the UL Procedure. We confirmed that the model 300T3H was manufactured in 1992.1993 at about 200 units. They have not made a model for Square D since then. However, they currently have the model T2H300S which has the same construction details as the 300T3H. The Quality Facilitator stated that the units manufactured in 1992-1993 never left the facility with the bonding strap bonded to the ventilation grill. There was always a grounding bond area that was located at the side of the unit, which was in compliance with the NEC code. An attempt was made on the model T2H300S to simulate the bonding strap being installed on the ventilation grill. The strap was not long enough to reach the ventilation grill. This leads us to believe the unit was modified in the field. Can you recall if you saw a hole on the side of the transformer? Please advise. The DE and I reviewed ULl516, the NEC code for grounding. He recommended that ULl516 be revised to include a section on grounding & bonding and that UL Procedures have a description added, addressing how these transformers should be grounded and bonded. We are currently and actively working on implementing his recommendations. If you have any questions concerning the information provided please contact me.
