OAKLAWNELEMENTARYWALK-A-THON Request permission to grant approval to Oaklawn Elementary School to close Viola Avenue, from Main Street to Jackson Street, on Monday, May 7, 2007 (rain date May 14th), from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for their annual Walk-A-Thon, in accordance with the attached letter of request. 3. COMMUNITY BLOOD CENTER BLOOD DRIVE Request permission to grant approval to the Community Blood Center to utilize Opera House Square and facilities, and to close Market Street, from High Avenue to Algoma Boulevard, on Thursday, June 14, 2007, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., for their 2nd Annual Operation Donation, in accordance with the attached letter of request. 4. NATIONAL MPS SOCIETY W ALK/RUN Request permission to grant approval to the National MPS Society to utilize South Park, city streets and facilities on Saturday, September 8, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 3 :00 p.m., for their walk/run, in accordance with the attached letter of request. 5. VVe are asking to have Viola Street, from Main to Jackson, closed May 7, 2007 (rain date May 14th) from 8:00 am - 2:30 pm. Last year the children raised close to $3000.00, this year we hope to beat that total, as the money made will go to buying more new books for our Media Center. The Community Blood Center is your local sole blood provider and we have been providing 100% of the blood products used at Mercy Medical Center since September of 1995 and at Aurora Medical Center since July of2003. VVe also provide the blood products used in hospitals surrounding your community such as Berlin Memorial Hospital, Ripon Medical Center, and Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. Last year, The <:ommunity Blood Center hosted a special event blood drive in Opera House Square called "Operation Donation". At this special lifesaving event, we recruited 130 blQod donors from area businesses as well as from community organizations to come down to the square and save some lives right here in our community. Because this event was overwhelmingly successful, we are looking to host the 2nd Annual event on June 14. VVe would like to use the Opera House Square (it worked so well last time) on June 14 from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. (the blood drive will run from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. but we will need set-up and take down time). VV e are hoping that you will allow us to park our bloodmobiles on Market Street alongside the square, as well as to use the park area for our registration set-up and reception area for'donors._ Please contact me at (920) 738-3131 ext. 3037 with any questions or concerns regarding this request. Wollangk 215 Church Avenue Oshkosh, WI 54901 March 22, 2007 Dear Mr. Wollangk, I am writing to you to request permission to hold the first ever National MPS Society walk/run here in Oshkosh. On January 25, 2007 my 4 year old. son Lucas Valdez was diagnosed with a rare, fatal disease called Sanfilippo. This disease causes progressive neurological damage as well as stiff joints and heart failure. There currently is no cure for this disease as most children only live between ten to fifteen years of age. Our only hope for Lucas's survival is to raise money for research. The walk entitled "Lukie's Legacy... A Walk for a Cure" will be held on Saturday, Septerriber8, 2007 at 1 0:00am at South Park. I have enclosed our proposed walk routearldfam requesting that you approve my walk route as well as allow me to rent South Park Shelter #2 for registration purposes. .. I have already spoke with the Parks Department for use of the Opera House Square as the starting point of the race, which was approved. This letter is to request your approval of use of the Opera House Square and city streets on Saturday, October 6, 2007. The race route will begin at Opera House Square, north on Algoma Blvd. To Vine Street, Vine Street to High Avenue and High Avenue back to Opera House Square. We would like Market Street between High Avenue and Algoma Blvd to be closed. The race will beginat9:00.a.m..and will be a total distance of3.2 miles or 5 kilometers. the; ab6ve'meritioned streets on our route will only be in use for the race for appr6Ximately' 45 minutes to one hour after the race begins. Following the race we will be providing entertainment for the community and our participants. Being "titled Zeta Tau Alpha Think Pink 5K RunlWalk/Roll", our goal is to raise $8,000 to be donated toward our national foundation for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness, We would like to continue this annual event in the future to proceed to raise awareness and money for such a worthy caUse. I look forward to working with the City of Oshkosh and hosting a meaningful event that will increase the awareness,ofbreast cancer and how it effects the millions of people who have been touched by it in one way or another.
