Dear Ms. LaMore:
I have reviewed the situation regarding your sanitary sewer lateral failure. It appe~. rsthe lateral
failed at a point underneath the roadway surface allowing for material to be un ermined from
the street. As was stated when you were at City Engineering, the lateral is ,wned by the
property owner whose property it serves and maintenance is the owner's reSPOnSi]i1ity.
At this time I can offer you three alternatives to repair the lateral. The first is for you to hire a
licensed contractor to do the work and pay them. The second is for you to reque t the City hire
a contractor to repair the lateral and have the cost placed on your tax bill. The thir.d option is to
request the City hire a contractor to repair the lateral and have the cost be place as a special
assessment against the property. Please see the enclosed form for additional info mation about
this option.
The City will issue a repair order in the next day or two allowing you to use optio two or three
above. If you elect to have the City hire a contractor the work will only repair he damaged
section of lateral and do the related work to repair the street; no additional action will be taken to
help prevent future failures and/or backups.
You may also be eligible for other financial assistance through the Planning Depa~ment. These
funds may be eligible for use to repair the entire lateral and help prevent future f ilures and/or
backups.
Please keep me informed of how you wish to proceed.
