Air Leakage:
o Joints, penetrations, and all other such openings in the building envelope that are sources of air leakage must be sealed.

Ventilation:
o Mechanical ventilation systems must be balanced. Passive intake air ducts providing makeup air for intermittent exhaust must be
sized to provide a minimum of 40% of the total air that would be exhausted with all the intermittent exhaust ventilation in the
dwelling operating simultaneously (COMM 23.02(3 }(b )).
Vapor Retarder:
o Required on the warm-in-winter side of all framed ceilings, walls, and floors (COMM 22.22).
Materials Identification:
o Materials and equipment must be identified so that compliance can be determined.
o Manufacturer manuals for all installed heating and cooling equipment and service water heating equipment must be provided.
o Insulation R-values and glazing U-factors must be clearly marked on the building plans or specifications.
Duct Insulation:
o Ducts in unconditioned spaces must be insulated to a minimum of R-5 (COMM 22.17).
Duct Construction:
o Sections of ducts in unconditioned spaces and the unconditioned side of plenums must be sealed (COMM 22.18).

Temperature Controls:
o Thermostats are required for each separate HVAC system. A manual or automatic means to partially restrict or shut off the
heating and/or cooling input to each zone or floor shall be provided (COMM 22.15).
Humidity Control:
o A humidistat is required when humidifying or dehumidifying (COMM 22.16).
Pipe Insulation:
o All heating pipes in unheated spaces and all cooling pipes in uncooled spaces must be insulated with a material providing a
minimum thermal resistivity of R-4 (CO MM 22.19).
