HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-247 JULY 25, 2006 06-247 RESOLUTION (CARRIED___6-1____ LOST _______ LAID OVER _______ WITHDRAWN _______) PURPOSE:REPEAL STATE - IMPOSED LICENSE QUOTA INITIATED BY:COUNCIL MEMBER ESSLINGER WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin has imposed on local communities a quota for "Class B" (intoxicating liquor) licenses that limit the number of establishments in Oshkosh that can serve both beer and alcohol; and WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin does permit communities to exercise a local option whereby no such licenses can be issued, such as the Village of Ephraim which is "dry"; and WHEREAS, such restrictions on the number of "Class B" can hurt the economic development of the community and represent a relic from the days of Prohibition that has outlived its usefulness; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the city of Oshkosh that the Council go on record as opposing the continued effect of state-imposed "Class B" license quotas on local communities, and asks that the Wisconsin Legislature repeal this quota. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is authorized and directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Governor, Senator Carol Roessler, Representative Gregg Underheim, Representative, Carol Owens, the Alliance of Cities and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities.
