chapter 10 1.0 I (1 0), Wisconsin Statutes, is responsible for compliance with all code requirements.
The following conditions shall be met during construction or installation and prior to occupancy or use:
Comm 61.36(1)(a) & (b) This approval will expire 2 years after the date of approval of the building plans if
the building shell is not closed in within those 2 years. Also, this approval will expire 3 years after the date of
building plan approval if the work covered by this approval is not completed and the building ready for
occupancy within those 3 years.
A copy of the approved plans, specifications and this letter shall be on-site during construction and open to
inspection by authorized representatives ofthe Department, which may include local inspectors. If plan index sheets
were submitted in lieu of additional full plansets, a copy of this approval letter and index sheet shall be attached to
plans that correspond with the copy on file with the Department. All permits required by the state or the local
municipality shall be obtained prior to commencement of construction/installation/operation. If this construction
project will disturb one or more acres oftand, an Erosion Control Notice ofIntent (N0l) shall be filed with the
department 14 days prior to any earth disturbing activities.
In granting this approval the Division of Safety & Buildings reserves the right to require changes or additions
should conditions arise making them necessary for code compliance. As per state stats 101.12(2), nothing in this
review shall relieve the designer of the responsibility for designing a safe building, structure, or component.

Dear Allyn;
Kener Structures proposes to replace an existing roof top unit (RTU) with two new
RTU's at the already in p!'Ogress renovation of the existing building located at 1571 West
South Park A venue (5TH 44).
Per information obtained from the Contractor, the weight of the RTU that will be
. removed is estimated to weigh at least as much as the weight of each of the two RTU's
that arc proposed to be added. The weight of the two new RTU's is estimated to be 750
pounds each.
The two new RTU's are proposed to be supported by two existing stee] support beams.
Bach beam is supported by four existing stee] support columns, Each existing support
column is located on a separate existing steel joist below the roof decking.
The dead load weight proposed to be added to each existing steel joist in the area of the
existing support beams and columns is approximately 250# (including an allowance for
the RTU mounted equipment screens), The ceiling tiles and suppol1ing metal track
syslern has already been l'emoved from the building roof structure as part of the
renovation. This reduction in roof dead load in addition to the weight of the RTu that
will be removed offsets thc weight of the two new RTU' s and screening.

Windward snow drifting against the RTu's and screening was evaluated, Stresses in the
existing joists actually appear to be reduced with the drifted condition (compared to the
non-drifted condition) sjnee snow from along the span of the joists would be moved by
the wind towards the end 01' the joists (up against the RTU's and screening) [0 create the
windward snow drift Hence, the existing joists and joist girder appear to be adequate to
support the propüsed addition of the two new RTU's and RTU mounted equipment
screens).

The equipment screening material used for the Express Laundry roof equipment is equal to or
less in weight than the material utilized in the calculations done by Larson Engineering - my
structural consultant for this project - therefore the loading from the screening and the potential
windward snow drifting conditions are still acceptable per the letter sent to you from Larsen
Engineering on February 3, 2006.

removed is estimated to weigh at least as much as the weight of each of the two RTU's
that are proposed to be added. The weight of the two new RTU's is estimated to be 750
pounds each.
The two new RTU's are proposed to be supported by two cxisting stcel support beams.
Each beam is supported by four existing steel support columns, Each existing support
column is located on a separate existing steel joist below the roof decking,
The dead load weight proposed to be added to caeh existing steel joist in the area of the
existing support beams and columns is approximately 250# (including an allowance for
the RTU mounted equipment screens). The ceiling tiles and suppo¡1ing metal track
system has already been removed from the building roof structure as part of the
renovation. This reduction in roof dead load in addition to the weight of the RTU that
will be removed offsets the weight of the two new RTU's and screening.

Windward snow drifting against the RTU's and screcning was evaluated. Stresscs in the
cxisting joists actually appcar to be reduced with the (l1ifted condition (compared to the
non-drifted condition) since snow from along the span of the joists would be moved by
the wind towards the end of the joists (up against the RTU's and screening) to create the
windward snow drirt. Hence, the existíngjoists and joist girder appeM to be adequate to
support the proposed addition of thc two new RTU's and RTU mounted equipment
screens).
