ON T"' WAõER March 30, 2006 Mr. Keith Paul Gartman Mechanical Services PO Box 2264 520 West South park Avenue Oshkosh, WI 54903 RE; Screening for Building Mounted Supply Diffuser Mr. Paul, The purpose of this letter is to provide a written statement regarding Planning Staff's interpretation on the mechanical equipment screening regulation [Muni. Code 30-35 (1)(5)] as it relates to the placement of a supply diffuser on the south façade of Wisconsin Ordinance building at 2605 N Main Street, Oshkosh, WI. Following our conversation and a site inspection, it is staffs' opinion/interpretation that the installation of said supply diffuser must be screened from view from Main Street to the east and from the residential property to the south. However, as the attached photographs show, the proposed mechanical equipment is not visible from the south because of a combination of the 8' tall fence and the extensive vegetation located.on the property to the south. With the understanding that the diffuser will be painted to match the building, and If you can supply documentation from the property owner to the south (William J & Lois Luebke Trust) that the vegetative screen will not be removed then screening from the south will not be necessary. Screening from the east is required even though the diffuser will be painted to match the building, as there is an open vision corridor directly from Main Street (see photo). I would suggest that screening may be accomplished by planting another set of evergreen trees at the properti line to the south of the existing ones, thereby removing the visibility from the roadway. ltis important to point out that this interpretation is case specific to the one individual mechanical unit discussed in this letter and does not apply to other mechanical improvements, installations or replacements, which must be reviewed on a case-by case basis. Additionally, I want to be clear in the understanding that a building permit is required prior to the installation of any mechanical equipment and that said equipment, be it building or ground mounted, Χ. required to comply with the screening requirements of the Municipal Code.
