IMC 304.1 Equipment and appliances shaH be instaHed as required by the terms of their approval, in
accordance with the conditions of the listing, the manufactures instructions and this code.
304.4 Public garages. Appliances located in public garages, service stations, repair garages or other areas
frequented by motor vehicles, shaH be instaHed a minimum of 8 feet (2438 mm) above the floor. Where
motor vehicles exceed 6 feet (1829 mm) in height and are capable of passing under an appliance,
appliances shaH be instaHed a minimum of2 feet (610 mm) higher above the floor than the height of the
taHest vehicle. Exception: The requiréments of this section shaH not apply where the appliances are
protected from motor vehicle impact and instaHed in accordance with Section 304.3 and NFP A 88B.

required to be maintained. - NOTE- Based on heat loss calculations submitted it would appear that the
system will not maintain design temperature (70 deg) during periods of time the exhaust and make-up
air system are functioning.

IMC 401.5 Opening Location Outside air exhaust and intake openings shall be located a minimum of 10
feet (3048 mm) from lot lines or buildings on the same lot. Where openings front on a street or public way,
the distance shaH be measured to the centerline of the street or public way.
IMC 401.5.1 Mechanical and gravity outside air intake openings shall be located a minimum of 10 feet
from any hazardous or noxious contaminant such as vents, chimneys, plumbing vents, streets, alleys,
parking lots and loading docks.
404.1 [Comm 64.0404 (I») Enclosed parking garages. Mechanical ventilation systems for enclosed
parking garages are not required to operate continuously where the system meets ill! of the foHowing:
(a) The system is arranged to operate automatically upon detection of carbon monoxide at a level of
35 parts per million (ppm) by automatic detection devices VerifY that spacing requirements for
listing of detectors has been met.
(b) If diesel fuel vehicles are stored, the system is arranged to operate automatically upon detection of
nitrogen dioxide at a level of 1 part per mi1lion (ppm) by automatic detection devices
(c) The system includes automatic controls for providing exhaust ventilation at a rate of 1/2 cfin per
square foot for at least five hours in each 24-hour period.
(d) The system maintains the garage at negative or neutral pressure relative to other spaces.
IFGC 619.4 Clearance. Suspended-type unit heaters shaH be installed with clearances to combustible
materials of not less than 18 inches (457 mID) at the sides, 12 inches (305 mm) at the bottom and 6 inches
(152 mm) above the top where the unit heater has an internal draft hood or I inch (25 mm) above the top
of the sloping side of the vertical draft hood. Where the flue gases are vented horizontally, the 6-inch
(152 mm) clearance shall be measured from the draft hood of vent instead of the rear wall of the unit
heater.. Exception: Unit heaters listed for reduced clearance shall be permitted to be instaHed with such
clearances in accordance with their listing and the manufacturer's instructions.
Comm 61.31(4) Revisions to approved plans. All proposed revisions and modifications which involve
rules under this code and which are made to construction documents that have previously been granted
approval by the department or its authorized representative, shall be submitted to the office that granted the
approval. AH revisions and modifications to plans shall be approved in writing by the department or its
authorized representative prior to the work involved in the revision or modification being carried out. A
revision or modification to a plan, drawing or specification shall be signed and sealed in accordance with
Comm 61.31(1).

A copy of the approved plans, specifications, and this letter shall be on-site during construction. All permits are required to
be obtained prior to commencement of work.
In granting this approval the City of Oshkosh Inspection Services Department reserves the right to require changes or
additions should conditions arise making them necessary for code compliance. As per state stats 101.12(2), nothing in this
review shall relieve the designer of the responsibility for designing a safe building, structure, or component.
