HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-45.docJANUARY 24, 2006 06 -45 ORDINANCE FIRST READING (CARRIED LOST LAID OVER WITHDRAWN ) PURPOSE: AMEND ORDINANCE TO ALLOW PERSONS TO TRANSFER DOGS WITH REGARD TO BOATING INITIATED BY: PARKS DEPARTMENT A GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF OSHKOSH AMENDING SECTION 19 -4 (D) OF THE OSHKOSH MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO DOMESTICATED ANIMALS (DOGS) BEING ALLOWED ON CITY PARK PROPERTIES. WHEREAS, there have been requests from boaters using City boat launches to have their dogs accompany them on boat rides; and WHEREAS, the current municipal code bans domestic animals in the parks, except for those animals necessary to assist disabled persons; and WHEREAS, the Advisory Parks Board reviewed the issue of allowing dogs to be transferred at City boat launches from vehicles to boats, and from boats to vehicles; and WHEREAS, the Advisory Parks Board approved a recommendation to allow dogs to be transferred at City boat launches; NOW, THEREFORE the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh does ordain as follows: SECTION 19. That Section 19 -4 (D) regarding the regulation of domesticated animals in City parks is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 19 -4 (D) No domesticated animals shall be allowed in the parks, except as follows: (1) Animals assisting disabled persons. (2) Persons will be allowed to have dogs at City park boat launches, only when being transferred from vehicles to boats, or boats to vehicles. Those dogs shall be on a leash no longer than six (6') feet and shall be under full control of their owners. (3) Upon waiver granted by the Common Council.
