I will be replacing the deck and posts on an existing 8'x8' porch. The overhang is
not being replaced. The ledger board and joists will consist of a 2"x8" green treat
lumber. The joists will be spaced 16" on center. The rim joist will be 2"xlO" green treat
lumber. The decking will consist of 1 "x6" tung and groove cedar boards. The post will
consist of 6"x6" green treat lumber wrapped with l"x 1 " cedar boards. There will be two
footings 48" deep with an 8" diameter. They will be 7' apart and one will be 7' ftom the
house and the other will be 3' ftom the house. A \12" J bolt will be placed in the footing
and then fastened to a triple zinc coated post pedestal. The 6"x6" post will then be
fastened to the pedestal and then to the decking.
The decking will be 2'6" above grade. Guard rails will be 36" off the decking
and will run around the edge of the decking and down both sides of the stairs. The rails
will be spaced a~ intervals. The stairs will be centered on the porch on the side facing

The ledger board will be 2"x8" green treat lumber and fastened to the house using
3/8"x 4" lag screws. Pairs of screws will be driven in at 16" intervals.
