To obtain a complete list of your rights, you may contact the Winnebago County Victim Witness Program, the State Victim Resource Center, or refer to Wisconsin Statutes, Chapter 950, ss. 950.04(1 v). Some of the important rights you have include the following: *the right to attend court proceedings *the right to be notified of hearings and court proceedings and disposition of your case *the right to compensation for losses (if eligible) *the right to restitution or judgment for unpaid restitution *the right to have recovered property returned in a timely manner *the right to receive certain information from law enforcement agencies and district attorneys *the right to have input into certain proceedings * the right to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect for his or her privacy. * the right to not have personal identifiers including email disclosed/used for a purpose unrelated to the official duties of an agency, employee or official. Please contact the investigating agency if you are subject to threats or intimidation arising from your cooperation with law enforcement or prosecution efforts relating to the investigation of any crime. Crime often destroys a victim's sense of trust in their surroundings and their sense of control over their lives. This intangible impact is often described as an invisible wound on the crime victim's life. This document is being provided to describe some of the rights crime victims have in Wisconsin. It may help you in obtaining present and future services. We hope you will find the information helpful. CASE STATUS: If you have questions about the status of your case, you can contact the investigating law enforcement agency. They can provide you with basic information about any arrests which may have been made and/or the investigative status of the case. ADULTS: If an adult person has been arrested and incarcerated in connection with this case, you may call the Wisconsin VINE, 1-888-944-8463 to check the custody status of the offender. If the case is referred to the Winnebago County District Attorney's office for possible prosecution , the District Attorney's office will try to contact you with additional information, including if charges will be filed, your right to attend certain court proceedings, and to discuss the case with the prosecutor. You may contact the District Attorney's office for more information about your rights. JUVENILES: Cases involving juvenile offenders will be referred to the Juvenile Court Intake Office. You may call the intake office to find out if the juvenile has been release from custody. The intake office will try to contact you with additional information, including your right to discuss the case with an intake worker. You may contact the intake office for more information about your rights. An arrest may or may not be made during the initial investigation of the crime you reported. The police agency will continue to investigate your crime. You may contact the investigation officer at any time to report additional information, ask questions, or determine the status of your investigation. We want to keep you informed as to the status of your investigation. If you move or your telephone number has changed, promptly contact the investigating law enforcement agency or the district attorney's office with the current information. CRIME VICTIM COMPENSATION PROGRAM If this crime resulted in personal injury, the Crime Victim Compensation Program may be available to help pay for certain unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses (such as medical bills, counseling, and lost wages) even if there is no arrest or conviction. It is not available for property damage or loss. BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE WISCONSIN CRIME VICTIM COMPENSATION PROGRAM: Who is Eligible? *An innocent victim who suffers injury from a crime *A dependent or legal representative of an innocent victim who has been killed as a result of a crime *A person who is injured while aiding a crime victim or helping a police officer *A person who suffers a reaction from the death of a family or household member *Persons who are injured in automobile accidents caused by drunk drivers What Compensation May Be Paid? *Injury or death benefit up to $40, 000.00 *Medical, surgical, pharmacy and mental health expenses *Lost wages, loss of support to dependents of victims *Reasonable replacement cost —clothing, bedding, property made unusable, cleaning of a crime scene of up to $1,000 *Cost of homemaker services *Funeral services up to $2, 000.00 08/06/12
