A request to restrict parking on Eagle St. near the Evergreen Retirement Community. (Current Condition: No parking, east side, from Maple Avenue to Buchanan Avenue). Proposed Condition: No parking, east side, from Maple Avenue South to its’ terminus. This is a request from a resident. Evergreen employees are parking in this area which is directly across from the driveway and the loading zone for the Evergreen building. Vehicles are parking on the west side as well so this area becomes very congested which makes the area difficult for vehicles and trucks to navigate the area safely. I recommend approval. 3. Workshop – Saturday Transit Hours – Currently, GO Transit offers fixed route service on Saturdays the same hours as week days which are 6:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Fixed route ridership drastically decreases on Saturdays especially in the early morning and afternoon. Please see the attached chart that shows ridership by route after 2 p.m. by day of the week. The chart shows that ridership drops on Saturday and that some routes have very low ridership on Saturday especially after 2 p.m. Operating for 12 hours on Saturday makes recruiting and retaining transit operators difficult. In today’s environment, not many transit operators/employees and/or potential employees are looking for extra hours especially on Saturdays. We have had transit operators leave transit to join other divisions such as sanitation due to better work hours (straight 8 hour shifts on week days only). Additionally, we do not have supervisory staff available to cover all the hours. This is an issue when incidents and/or accidents arise. Fortunately, we have dedicated staff that respond as needed however; this isn’t ideal. Our peers have taken action to address this situation. We compete with our peer agencies for the same pool of transit operators. For example, Valley Transit drastically reduced their service hours; on Saturday, they now Transportation Committee Staff Report June 10, 2025 operate from 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They made the decision to offer their Connector/micro- transit service during the hours they cut so those that need transportation during those hours still have options. Fond du Lac does not offer any Saturday service (fixed or Microtransit). Please see attached chart on peer systems. There are a few options to consider. ▪ Option 1: Status quo – do the best we can to recruit and retain operators/employees with the current hours and possibly advocate for another supervisor. ▪ Option 2: Eliminate Saturday service. ▪ Option 3: Reduce Saturday service (either start service later and/or end service early) ▪ Option 4: Start and/or end service early and offer micro-transit/shared ride taxi to fill the gaps. This option would ensure there is effectively no change in service hours. Note: with this option, we may want to consider a higher fare for micro-transit so we don’t drastically increase the expense and demand.
