HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.09.25 Newsletter : TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Rebecca Grill, City Manager DATE: May 9, 2025 RE: Weekly Newsletter 1. 2025 STATE OF THE CITY VIDEO PRESENTATION COMING SOON: State of the City will again be in a video format this year so we can continue to reach more people and more conveniently for residents. The video will premiere on Wednesday, May 14th. We’ll share a “behind-the-scenes” look at city operations, Capital Improvement Projects for 2025, City facilities updates, development projects, and the outlook for Oshkosh’s future. Make note: Wednesday, May 14th on Oshkosh Media’s YouTube channel and also check schedules on Oshkosh Media Gov TV, where you can watch on Spectrum channel 10 or on TV streaming devices with the Oshkosh Media app. 2. INFORMATIONAL LETTERS SENT TO PROPERTY OWNERS IMPACTED BY RECONSTRUTION PROJECTS: Informational letters were sent to the property owners impacted by this year’s reconstruction projects on the following streets: • Nebraska Street • West 16th Avenue • Bay Shore Drive • Bay Street • Waugoo Avenue • Sweet Street • West 15th Avenue • Central Street • Michigan Street • West 11th Avenue • National Avenue • North Lark Street • Faust Avenue These letters outlined the proposed work that will be included in these projects, which includes concrete paving, asphalt paving, curb/gutter, and new sidewalk. Concrete driveway approaches will be constructed for all affected properties. The existing underground utilities (sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water main) will be inspected and replaced, if necessary. Storm sewer laterals will be constructed for properties, if appropriate. Existing sanitary sewer and water laterals will be replaced, if appropriate, within the street right-of-way. New sanitary sewer, water, and storm laterals will be installed to any vacant lots, if appropriate. These letters also outlined the special assessment procedure for these properties and explained the impact of the Vehicle Registration Fee on special assessments. A public hearing will be scheduled prior to approval of the final resolution authorizing special assessments to be levied for the improvements. All owners will be notified of the public hearing and receive a statement indicating proposed assessments for each property. It is anticipated the proposed assessment statements will be mailed in May and the public hearing will be held in May. NO GARBAGE OR RECYCLING COLLECTION ON MEMORIAL DAY: Due to the City’s observance of the Memorial Day holiday, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Monday, May 26, 2025. Collections for the remainder of the week will be one day later. Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Friday, May 30th moves to Saturday, May 31st. Regular services resume on Monday, June 2rd. The City’s yard waste drop-off site located on West 3rd Avenue (between Idaho Street and Ohio Street) will be closed for the holiday on Monday, May 26th. The drop-off site will reopen on Tuesday, May 27th. Residential curbside brush collection for June will take place on the regularly-scheduled garbage collection day, the week of June 2nd – June 6th. FITZPATRICK, OSHKOSH MEDIA HONORED AT MEDIA FEST: Assistant City Manager John Fitzpatrick and Oshkosh Media staff brought home some special awards at the annual Wisconsin Community Media Fest this past week in Pewaukee. Fitzpatrick was recognized for his 25+ years of support for community media in Oshkosh as he received WCM’s “Friend of Access Award.” The award is given to people who understand, support, and champion community media. In the annual Best of the Midwest Media Fest, Oshkosh Media earned top-level Excellence awards for three programs: the 2024 State of the City, City Manager Minute, and the Oshkosh Fire and Police Department Back to School Special. Local producer John Nieman also won an Excellence award for his show, “The Place to Be Oshkosh,” giving the city’s community media center four “gold” medal awards. The Best of the Midwest Media Fest is an annual competition open to community media centers and their producers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas.
