Because this is a petition for variance, there is no additional charge for follow-up information submissions.
It was noted in our phone conversation that a petition for variance may not be required. The following information request is to
help in that evaluation.
The designer is requested to identify, in greater detail, the building under discussion. What is the construction type? How
many stories is the building and is there a basement? Is the building sprinklered throughout? What are the occupancies
associated with this building and where are they located within the building? What is the floor area associated with each floor
level? What are the window and door sizes, and what is the percentage of openings (window, door, etc) intended for the
exterior wall of concern associated with each floor level? Are the window & door openings in the area of concern protected via
fire rated assemblies or sprinklering, or not? See IBC 705.8.2. Provide an exterior elevation of the wall and the intended
openings.
If it is found that the proposed percentage of openings exceeds the maximum allowable percentage based on the location of the
existing easements, what does the submitter propose for equiv alent safety?

building of concern is required so that the petition can be differentiated from future use on different types of buildings
consisting of different construction, number of stories, sprinkler status, occupancies, etc.
The submitter is informed that the section IBC 1205.2 referenced on the petition as being required to be met, is not
necessarily required to be met. Specifically, IBC 1205.1 states that every space intended for human occupancy shall be
