Oshkosh Board of Police and Fire Commission
January 21st, 2025
A meeting of the Police and Fire Commission was held on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 at 3:00
p.m. in the Room SB1, at the Oshkosh Police Department.
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Montgomery, Boettcher, Jones, Wrage and Schorse
Excused/Absent:
New Business:
Commissioner Boettcher made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Montgomery to the
appointment of Greg Stelter to the position of Interim Fire Chief effective January 30th, 2025
Motion Carried 5-0.
Discussion of the Fire Chief recruitment plan. The Police and Fire Commission is the hiring
body and will select finalists for the position. So far, the PFC has given direction to staff to:
1. Begin the recruitment process by posting the opening locally and nationally
2. Develop a community survey to gain input from the community regarding preferred
qualities and skills and abilities for the next Fire Chief
3. Develop an employee survey to gain input from employees regarding preferred
qualities and skills and abilities for the next Fire Chief (this may be the same
survey as the community survey)
4. Plan for interview panels including the PFC members as one panel, as well as panels
that may encompass a peer/technical panel, a community member panel and a city
employee panel
5. Research and propose interview dates based on availability of participants and
resources
6. Schedule a “meet and greet” for finalists as part of the interview process (similar to the
one that we recently held for the City Manager finalists)
