Vette Programs Committee Member September Event Chair Propel Page 1 of 1 Challis, Jackie From: Ian Abston [ian1 @hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, September 10, 20044:28 PM To: ian1 @hotmail.com; Dear Oshkosh City Council, My name is Ian Abston and I am a junior at the University of Oshkosh. I am representing a group of enthusiastic students in hopes of hosting a 2004 homecoming block party on Amherst street the Saturday before homecoming from 11 :OOa.m. to 8 :00 pm. Homecoming has always been a time for the past graduates to remember their college days and meet up with the current students. However, recently homecoming is becoming less popular among the students and I think that an event like this will make kids more interested into going to the game and participating in campus events. Students have tried a block party on Wisconsin street for a couple of years but its never more than a handful of students and about that many police officers. Extra police officers have to be hired and jaywalking tickets are given out because it is such a high traffic area. But Amherst is perfect for the gathering because it has very little traffic and most of the houses are occupied by students. We have plenty of room for events, grills and even a stage for the band so students can stay busy all day. We understand that the event would require road blocks, extra police officers, and city permits. This money can be easily raised if the students will be able to have a memorable homecoming. Thank you very much for your time.
