HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.07.24 Newsletter TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Mark Rohloff, City Manager DATE: June 7, 2024 RE: Weekly Newsletter 1. 2024 REVALUATION UPDATE: The City of Oshkosh Assessor’s office is its process to revalue all properties in 2024 for the purpose of updating assessed values to reflect current market conditions. The last revaluation in Oshkosh was in 2017. Since May 6th, the Assessor’s office has assisted approximately 1,000 property owners citywide. In coordination with our contracted commercial appraisal staff, notices of assessment will be mailed to commercial property owners the week of June 10th, with the Commercial Open Book period taking place between June 10th and June 21st. During this period, commercial property owners are encouraged to contact the Assessor’s Division with questions. Staff can either answer the questions regarding new assessed values or book an appointment with our commercial appraisal staff. Aside from fundamental questions about the revaluation or the assessment process, the Commercial Open Book period is by-appointment only. Commercial property owners with more detailed inquiries should request an appointment with commercial staff by calling (920) 236-5070. If the property owner still does not agree with the new value after speaking to staff, an appeal may be submitted to the Board of Review, where members will examine the assessments and listen to the property owner’s concerns starting on July 10th. Please visit the City’s website under “Hot Topics” and scroll to the “2024 Revaluation for Oshkosh Properties” page to find additional information. Commercial property owners can see their updated values online on June 10th, prior to receiving the hard copy via postal mail, and are encouraged to view the Property Assessments link on the Assessor’s homepage. Please contact Director of Community Development Kelly Nieforth with any questions. 2.
