This ethos extends beyond our participants to encompass their families, our staff, and the broader community. 75,000 115,537.00 2,352,401.00 Project Title: Sustainable Synergy: Energy Efficiency for Non-Profit Success Covey’s Respite House in Oshkosh, established in 1994, has provided invaluable support to hundreds of families caring for loved ones with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), offering tens of thousands of hours of respite care. Annually, we provide over 50,000 hours of respite care to approximately 60 families, around half of whom are from Oshkosh. This facility stands as a testament to our commitment to providing the resources needed for these families, enabling them to fully participate in their community and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with I/DD. Many of our families have expressed that without this resource, their loved one would no longer be able to live at home and could potentially face institutionalization. Covey’s Respite House serves as a dependable resource for these families, particularly as other care options continue to shrink. Respite care empowers family caregivers to prioritize their loved one's needs while managing other responsibilities. It sustains their employment, relationships, and personal well-being, preventing declines in physical and mental health and feelings of isolation. Without respite, their loved ones also face increased health risks and potential abuse. Respite House attendees enjoy pursuing interests, community engagement, and building friendships. The population we serve was profoundly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our participants are identified as being at high risk for serious illness or death should they contract COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of our participants during this very challenging time, we felt it prudent to suspend services during the worst of the outbreak, limiting the support we were able to provide for the families we serve. Additionally, COVID-19 exacerbated the existing caregiver crisis, making it a greater challenge to hire and retain qualified caregiving staff. This resulted in a reduction in services once we were able to reopen. Covey’s program is the only one of its kind in Oshkosh, so alternatives to our services were not available. Critical to Respite House operations is the provision of a safe, comfortable, and homelike environment. To uphold this standard, ongoing maintenance and repairs are imperative. The original builders of the structure wisely utilized high-quality, long-lasting materials. After 30 years, roof, window, patio door, and hot water heater replacement are vital to the ongoing operations of the Respite House. Our sustainable synergy project involves using energy star certified products to replace the existing roof, patio doors, windows, and hot water heater. Nonprofits must adeptly manage all available resources, including financial assets and physical surroundings. Enhancing aging building systems with high-quality, energy-efficient products ensures long-term sustainability. The savings from decreased maintenance, fewer replacements, and lower energy expenses can be reinvested in advancing the organization's mission. Covey projects a 10% to 25% reduction in annual energy costs for the facility, translating to savings of Project Title: Sustainable Synergy: Energy Efficiency for Non-Profit Success $19,000 to $47,000 over the products' expected 30-year lifespan, according to Energy Star estimates. Those we serve were not only negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but Covey also suffered financially as a result. While we utilized resources such as PPP loans, we have yet to fully recover from the lasting financial impact. Funding for these facility improvements will greatly contribute to Covey’s ongoing fiscal sustainability. Covey, governed by a Board of Directors, appoints a Finance Committee responsible for fiscal oversight, reporting directly to the board. Expenditures undergo thorough review and require approval from two individuals for any amount exceeding $5,000. Checks are prepared by the CFO and signed by the CEO. Annual financial audits, conducted by an independent auditor chosen by the Finance Committee, scrutinize Covey's financial records, with findings presented to the Board of Directors. Our financial management system employs computer software enabling meticulous tracking of all organizational expenses and income, with each item categorized by project for streamlined reporting across the organization. Covey respectfully requests that the City of Oshkosh consider a grant in the amount of $75000.00 toward this project. Covey is pursuing funding for the project through additional grant applications to various foundations, seeking in-kind support from selected vendors, and exploring collaboration with Rebuilding Together Fox Valley. If we don't meet our goal, we'll likely scale back the project's scope and/or complete it in phases, being sure ARPA funds are expended by 12/31/24 during phase one.
