In May 2022, Child Care Resource & Referral teamed up with a former Winneconne resident, Michelle Zellner, now of Denver, Co. to provide local child care programs with supplies to grow their own gardens. “When I grew up we had a huge garden in our backyard,” says Zellner. “It’s special to me to know that little humans are getting to experience the joy of gardening.” Zellner’s online Better Beings vision board event, held in January 2022, raised funds to buy garden seed kits, small garden tables, and planting dirt, for several child care programs in the Winneconne/Omro/Larsen area. Child Care Resource & Referral assisted by providing nutritional resources and fun additional surprises for the programs. Zellner designated the funds be used to promote the nutrition of children in our area. The garden kits also served as a chance to say “thank you” to child care providers who, despite all the challenges they are currently facing in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, continue to take steps to support children and families.
