HomeMy WebLinkAbout04.19.24 Newsletter TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Mark Rohloff, City Manager DATE: April 19, 2024 RE: Weekly Newsletter 1. REPLACEMENT 96-GALLON GARBAGE AND RECYCLING LIDS AVAILABLE STARTING MAY 1, 2024: The City of Oshkosh will begin offering replacement lid sales for the 96-gallon garbage and recycling carts on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Replacement lids can be purchased at the Collections counter in City Hall. The cost for the replacement lids is $50, which includes delivery and installation of the replacement lid and disposal of the damaged lid. Possible damage to the lids that would warrant replacement would be cracks, holes, and fire damage. This damage is a safety issue for the equipment and driver handling the cart, a health hazard with rodents possibly accessing the cart, and a littering issue with loose garbage and recycling items blowing out of the cart. If you have any questions regarding this new service, please contact the Public Works Sanitation Division at (920) 232-5383. 2. MUSEUM PROGRAM WITH NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIST JENNIFER M. STEVENS: OPM’s 2023 Featured Contemporary Native American Artist Jennifer M. Stevens will present a public program at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th at the Museum. Stevens will bring attendees on a journey through the world of Oneida pottery and the work being done to rediscover prehistoric indigenous pottery craft. Titled “Oneida Pottery: Journey Through a Thousand Years,” this presentation-style program is free with general admission on April 27th. Registration required as space is limited. Visit oshkoshmuseum.org for more information and to register. 3. OPD HAPPENINGS: The Oshkosh Police Department welcomed the hiring of Community Service Officer Zachary Weber on April 9, 2024. Congratulations and welcome to the OPD team. Zachary Weber is originally from Oshkosh, graduating from Oshkosh North High School in 2023. He is currently enrolled at Fox Valley Technical College in the Criminal Justice program. Prior to becoming a community service officer, Zach was employed with Culver’s Restaurant primarily as a crew trainer in the kitchen. 4. OPD PROVIDES SAFETY SERVICES DURING SPRING PUB CRAWL: On Saturday, April 13, the Oshkosh Police Department successfully deployed patrol officers and the Mobile Field Force for this year’s Spring Pub Crawl, which saw a significant increase in pedestrian traffic in the areas surrounding the college. Members of the Mobile Field Force worked diligently throughout the day to increase the presence of law enforcement in the residential areas near the campus. Patrol officers and Mobile Field Force officers responded to approximately 100 calls for service during the event. Officers arrested a total of 5 individuals in the area of where the pub crawl events and house parties were taking place. Officers wrote 48 citations (3 citations for Underage Consumption/Possession of Alcohol and 39 citations for Open Intoxicants). The safety of our citizens is our top priority. We are committed to making the Oshkosh community a safe and inviting place for everyone who lives in, works in, and visits our city. 5.
