HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.01.2024 MinutesCITY OF OSHKOSH SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD Minutes April 1st 2024 SAB PRESENT: Margy Davey, Lisa Marone, Jacob Klaameyer, Vic Oliver, LaKeisha Haase EXCUSED: Brad Spanbauer ABSENT: Megan LaFond STAFF AND OTHERS: Emma Dziengeleski (Planning Staff), Staff (Oshkosh Media) I. Call to Order Chair Margy Davey called the meeting to order at 6:00pm and a quorum was declared present. II. Public Comment Ms. Davey asked if there were public comments. No public comments occurred. III. Approval of Minutes, February 26th, 2024 Ms. Marone motioned to approve the minutes. Ms. Haase seconded the motion. The board approved the February 26th minutes 5-0 (Marone/Haase). IV. No Mow May Resolution Discussion/Action Ms. Davey introduced No Mow May 2024. Ms. Dziengeleski shared that the only difference of this year’s resolution from last year’s was the change of dates. She also said that staff has already started working on getting more education out to the public on what they can do in addition to No Mow May. Staff is planning to do a follow up email once residents register again this year. She also stated that staff is hoping to get more information out throughout the the month of May as well. Ms. Davey asked what the process is if someone does want to register. Ms. Dziengeleski explained that it will be the same online registration form that was utilized last year. Residents will be able to access this via the City Website, Facebook, the Connect Oshkosh App, and staff can help register them at the Planning Services Counter. Ms. Oliver motioned to approve the No Mow May Resolution for 2024 as written. Mr. Klaameyer seconded the motion. The board approved the motion 5-0 (Oliver/Klaameyer) V. Summer Farmers Market Discussion Ms. Davey shared that the Farmers Market paperwork has been submitted and that she was just waiting to hear back on the dates. She said that it is her understanding that she should hopefully hear back by May, and then the board will need to figure out who would be able to attend. There was brief discussion amongst the board members on the content and materials that may need to be updated for the Farmers Market. VI. Agenda Items for Future Meeting Ms. Marone proposed having a workshop after the May 6th meeting. The board discussed including their 2024 goals, and possibly moving forward with a proposal for tree protection zones. There was discussion about urban tree canopy and tree protection zones amongst the board members. Mr. Klaameyer included adding No Mow May on the agenda in May. The board would like an update on the educational component, how many residents are registered, comparisons to last year, etc. Mr. Klaameyer also included a request for a special meeting regarding a grant opportunity through the NRCS to expand community agriculture. He shared that the application for this grant is due May 22, 2024. The board then discussed potential dates to hold a special meeting, and asked staff to check into rooms and times that would work. Ms. Marone also added a possible update on ARPA funding if there is an update. She shared that it would be nice to include on the May agenda. Ms. Davey concluded by thanking Ms. Haase for her time as the Council Liaison for the Sustainability Advisory Board, and wish her the best for the future. VII.
