BOATING SEASON IS UNDERWAY: It has been a mild winter and the boating season in our community is underway. The City of Oshkosh has six boat launches available for public use. To use the launches, you need to obtain a permit. NEW in 2024: you can only purchase a permit at the Oshkosh Parks Department (805 Witzel Ave.), online, or at the electronic pay stations located at every launch site in the City. There are daily, seasonal, and three-year permits available. Daily passes are purchased at the boat launch electronic pay stations for $7.00. Rates for the 2024 season are listed below: City of Oshkosh: Resident Resident, Senior Rate (55+) Non-Resident Seasonal $30.00 $25.00 $40.00 Multi-Year (3 yrs) $70.00 $55.00 $95.00 Replacement Seasonal $5.00 $5.00 $10.00 Replacement Multi-Year $10.00 $10.00 $20.00 Where can you purchase boat launch permits to use at the City of Oshkosh boat launch sites? • Electronic pay stations located at every boat launch site within the City of Oshkosh.* • In-person at the Oshkosh Parks Department Offices located at 805 Witzel Avenue. (Cash, check, or credit cards accepted) o Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. o Call 920-236-5080 with questions. • Online at the Parks Department online services page. A permit sticker will be mailed to you. * Place your receipt on the driver’s side windshield. If you purchase a seasonal or multi-year permit at the electronic pay station, bring the receipt to the Parks Department Offices to receive a sticker within 14 days of purchase. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH THE PARKS DEPARTMENT: We need your assistance in recruiting seasonal employees for jobs available this summer. Remember when the only options for a summer job were bagging groceries or working in a fast-food place? At the Parks Department, we have jobs for zookeepers, working poolside concessions, and helping with outdoor concerts and special events. Summers are meant to be outside, and we have the jobs that make that wish come true. If you or someone you know needs summer employment, please encourage them to apply for a position with the Oshkosh Parks Department. We have something for everyone. Open positions include attendants at the Lakefly Café, special event staff, maintenance positions throughout the parks, Pollock Community Water Park, and seasonal zoo keepers. Working for the City of Oshkosh Parks Department is a rewarding summer experience and one you don’t want to pass up. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND IN OUR PARKS: The Oshkosh Park Department is in full recruitment mode, not only for seasonal employees but for volunteers! There are various activities, programs, and park cleanup projects available, starting with “Breakfast with the Bunny” and “Bunny in the Barn” events being hosted at the Sunnyview Expo Center on March 30th. We are still looking for volunteers to help at the “Brews on the Bay” concerts. These opportunities are great for individuals, family members, friends, and community organizations. Did you know that proceeds from park-sponsored events help support the overall budget for maintenance, programming, and more? If you enjoy spending time in parks, consider volunteering and attending these events. There’s something for everyone to enjoy! SENIOR CENTER OFFERING FUN UPCOMING EVENTS: • Sweet Caroline, the Center Welcomes Neil Diamond! Okay, it’s not Neil, but it’s the next best thing: Eric Diamond, a tribute artist, will be at the Center on Thursday, April 18th, at 2:00 p.m. at the North building. Eric Diamond lives and breathes all of Neil Diamond’s songs. It is quite the show, and it will most likely sell out. Tickets are $8 and go on sale March 25th. Tickets may be purchased at the Oshkosh Seniors Center located at 200 N. Campbell Road. • Travel Opportunities with the Center: If you like to travel, we encourage you to check out the trips offered by Winnebago Senior Tours. The tours take all the hassle out of traveling. You’ll love the day trips to a Brewers game, or how about heading to the Performing Art Center in Appleton to see Moulin Rouge? Feeling adventurous? Join them as they travel to Mackinac Island and Northern Michigan! The Winnebago Senior Tours even has a plan for a Greece Island Hopper excursion or a trip to New York City. The Winnebago Senior Tours group is made up of volunteers. They have office hours at the Oshkosh Seniors Center Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All their trips may be found in “The Current,” the Center’s monthly program newsletter, which can be accessed online at oshkoshwi.gov/SeniorServices/. FIRE DEPARTMENT HOLDS OFFICER’S WORKSHOP: On Thursday, March 14th, Oshkosh Fire Department held a day-long Company Officer’s Workshop. In the morning, they learned from Chief Bruce Bjorge as he presented, "Are You Really Ready?" Our leaders are the best because they learn from the best. They are always willing to learn new ways to be better leaders. In the afternoon, Captain Nick Ledin shared the incredible research and work from the Firefighter Rescue Survey that has led to lives being saved. We are always wanting to learn new ideas and ways to rescue people from burning buildings. It was a valuable session for our leaders that make critical decisions every day. 6. GET INVOLVED IN A BOARD OR COMMISSION: If you are interested in serving your community, please consider becoming a member of one of the City’s citizen advisory boards, commissions, or committees. MINUTES FOR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: All meeting minutes are uploaded to the website upon approval. LOOKING AHEAD: The meetings I have scheduled for the week of March 25th include the following: on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., I will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Froedtert ThedaCare Health micro-hospital facility on 6th Avenue; at 11:30 a.m., I will meet with Sam Liebert of All Voting is Local; and at 2:00 p.m., I will meet with a representative of the Wisconsin Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons regarding their work on epinephrine legislation and increasing the availability of epinephrine for severe allergic reactions. On Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., I will attend the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Board Meeting. On Thursday morning, I will attend the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission meeting in Appleton. City Hall will be closed on Friday, March 29th.
