HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-24.docJANUARY 22, 2002 02-24 RESOLUTION (CARRIED 7-0 LOST LAID OVER WITHDRAWN ) PURPOSE: ENDORSE STATE HIGHWAY 41 IMPROVEMENTS INITIATED BY: CITY ADMINISTRATION WHEREAS, United States Highway 41 is an important north-south link between the City of Oshkosh and other communities; and WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has begun a long-range study for modernizing US 41 and its interchanges to address increasing traffic volumes and emerging safety and traffic flow problems; and WHEREAS, the study corridor extends from ½ mile south of the WiS 26 interchange in the town of Nekimi to ½ mile north of the Breezewood/Bell interchange in the City of Neenah; and WHEREAS, the recommended plan includes reconstruction of the interchange at WIS 21 and WIS 110, the addition of a third driving lane in each direction on US 41 (in the median) and providing bicycle/pedestrian trail crossings (including a trail facility across Lake Butte des Morts); and WHEREAS, it is desirable for the City of Oshkosh to express its support for early reconstruction and improvement of this important highway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council for the City of Oshkosh that the City strongly encourages the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation to pursue the recommended plan for modernization of US 41 and its interchanges in the corridor from ½ mile south of the WIS 26 interchange in the town of Nekimi to ½ mile north of the Breezewood/Bell interchange in the City of Neenah. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper city officials are hereby authorized and directed to communicate to the Department this endorsement and present the City's official position in appropriate forums.
