HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-356.docAUGUST 14, 2001 FIRST READING AUGUST 28, 2001 SECOND READING 01-347 01-356 ORDINANCE (CARRIED LOST 3-4 LAID OVER WITHDRAWN ) PURPOSE: REPEAL TAXICAB DRIVER LICENSING REQUIREMENTS INITIATED BY: COUNCIL MEMBER BLOECHL A GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF OSHKOSH AMENDING ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 22 OF THE OSHKOSH MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO REGULATION OF TAXICAB DRIVERS WHEREAS, municipalities have authority under sec. 349.24 of the Wisconsin Statutes to license taxicabs, including similar types of vehicles transporting passengers for hire; and WHEREAS, the City of Oshkosh has had an ordinance licensing the owners and operators of taxicabs and similar vehicles transporting passengers for hire; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to eliminate the licensing requirements for taxicab drivers; The Common Council of the City of Oshkosh does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. That Section 22-9 of the Oshkosh Municipal Code pertaining to the Employing Unlicensed Drivers is repealed and recreated to read as follows: SECTION 22-9 EMPLOYING UNLICENSED DRIVERS It shall be unlawful for any person operating a taxicab upon the streets of the City to employ as a driver of such taxicab any person other than a driver duly licensed under the applicable provisions of the Wisconsin Statutes. SECTION 2. That sections 22-10 through 22-14 of the Oshkosh Municipal Code pertaining to licensing taxicab drivers are repealed and that sections 15 through 18 be renumbered sections 22-10 through 22-13 respectively. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication.
