PURPOSE: AMEND ELECTRICAL CODE INITIATED BY: CITY ADMINSTRATION A GENERAL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF OSHKOSH REPEALING AND RECREATING SECTION 11-46 OF THE OSHKOSH MUNICIPAL CODE PERTAINING TO ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS/WIRING METHODS The Common Council of the City of Oshkosh does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. That Section 11-46 of the Oshkosh Municipal Code pertaining to the electrical "Installation Requirements" is hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows: SECTION 11-46 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS Except as otherwise regulated in this Chapter, all electrical methods and materials shall conform to and comply with all laws, rules, orders and regulations as adopted in Section 11-2 of this chapter. Pursuant to Section 101.16(1) of the Wisconsin Statutes, this Section provides more stringent requirements than set forth in the Wisconsin State Electrical Code. (A) Items Not Covered by the Code In instances where through the development of new electrical equipment or other special situations which are not specifically treated within the Wisconsin State Electrical Code, the Electrical Inspector shall have the authority to establish installation standards. (B) Wirin.q Methods Non-Metallic Sheathed Cable, Armor Clad (Type AC) Cable and Metal Clad (Type MC, MI) Cable shall not be used as the wiring method in buildings and structures except as follows: 1. 1&2 Family Homes and associated accessory/utility buildings. 2. Apartment Buildings and Condominiums as allowed by the NEC. 3. Rooming Houses, Dormitories, CBRF's as allowed by the NEC. 4. Motels/Hotels as allowed by the NEC containing only guest facilities. a. Motels/Hotels containing facilities for the general public (such as restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, convention centers, etc.) shall not be exempted. Such buildings having the guest housing facilities JULY 24, 2001 FIRST READING separated from the general public facilities by a minimum of a 1 hour separation may wire the guest housing facilities per the exception. AUGUST 14, 2001 01-316 01-345 ORDINANCE SECOND READING CONT'D Armored and Metal Clad Cable may be installed, by permission of the Electrical Inspector, in spaces which have been permanently closed in by the structure or finish of any building which has been completed for at least ninety (90) days and which is not judged as electrically hazardous by the Electrical Engineer. (c) Abandoned and/or unused wiring or electrical equipment shall be rendered unusable or removed. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication.
